Companies will just keep giving the president gifts so they are exempt from this

The AI dinner was a front. Those guys knew what was coming.
It may just force more tech jobs off shore. Large firms don’t have to have people working here in the US and teams have been spread across locations anyway. Like the tariffs, it sounds good until get into details. A company might keep a couple great H1bs, send the rest home, pay them less, and the excess visa fees won’t offset the lost tax revenue and economic impact of fewer domestic workers. If you had a one for substitution of Americans to replace visa holders, then maybe it’s a benefit but that really isn’t the case so it’s not going to have the impact we think.
I would like to see that data.

We are cooked. Also there is no way to keep this discussion apolitical. Those days ended in 2015.

They ended way before that.
good for america
It will force companies to expand operarions outside of the US also for higher value operations like R&D. It may lead to a short term increase in jobs for us-born individuals, but in a few years many more jobs will be lost in favor of Europe or whichever region is able attract international talent.
As a European, I can say that this is not going to happen. Europe has very closed societies, a strict demand for speaking the local language, and with the exception of UK, it is famous for how difficult integration is. I think Middle East is the most likely beneficiarry of the exodus
Forgetting the massive human disruption, I think the winners of this will actually be American tech workers. The outsourcing / body shops have largely taken the "boring" maintenance and infrastructure work. These are still critical and great learning grounds for senior tech roles.
The notion that the demand exceeds supply is laughable. Basically economic principle would suggest that the median H1B visa holders pay should be increasing dramatically year over year.
BUT... Also the median salary of non H1B holders. I
n fact, that should be increasing faster.
Yet both are stalled
this is going to be a huge hit for the Indian tech outsourcers. Will kill a lot of their business cases for low cost takeovers. It will be good for automation and AI initiatives.
Good? Did you miss this will be good for automation and AI? Aka Americans lose jobs too??
Probably marginally fewer jobs for Americans as H1b visa holders create additional demand for labor, but not a very large change.
Lol ok. Show me any study where increasing the population doesn't increase aggregate demand

The lack of understanding of economic principles in this bowl is only superceded by the lack of understanding by most politicians.
Hard to predict, but it looks like a it was a bargaining chip just as the India US trade negotiations were set to begin on Monday.
More 100% remote opportunities for folks in Europe🥰 More talent will remain in our continent too
Trump had H1B residents on his properties including FLOTUS .
Chief
So what? If it had cost him 100k a pop he would have paid more to attract non H1B workers. This is irrelevant.
Might even catalyze more near shoring. Soon, we will see more Indians migrating to Argentina and Mexico.
Pro
H1B should cost even more. 95% of the people employed by the program should have it revoked. The US needs to employ its own citizens first. The extreme edge cases where the US does not have the talent is where H1B should come into play.
Think steps being taken are excellent for our economy and will hopefully be taken further.
Think it is GREAT!
Would be great
