Forced RTO has been a real challenge. They did offer hybrid options, which helped some but some still expect full days. As for coworkers, being direct or blunt can be misunderstood. Being open about neurodiversity and having ADHD advocates is a smart move. It helps build understanding and reduces miscommunication.
I just come in super late everyday. No one has said anything and I still manage my responsibilities.
Honestly, I hate it and it has tanked my productivity. I had a system in place that worked extremely well for my neurodivergent needs when I worked from home, and all of that went away when I had to come back to the office. I'm pretty much headphones in, head down the entire day unless I'm in a meeting. I'm also pretty direct and straightforward, and I'm not really working here to make friends. I don't really mind if people think I'm a little bit abrasive though because I'm really good at my job and they didn't hire me to have water cooler discussions. Even if that sounds harsh, I also have to take care of my own headspace and endless small talk is really exhausting for me.
That's a great point, and I will look into it. I kind of just assumed it was something I had to put my head down and deal with. A lot of work places don't have great accommodation programs for neurodivergent folks, I've even been told in the past to just get over it.
Rising Star
I secured accommodations before the RTO mandates to protect my ability to WFH. I'm on a project with a distributed team, so they're no one in the office for me to work with, if I did go.
I've been periodically showing face at the office for a few hours, b then turning home to get work done. So far that has been good.
I’m currently on a hybrid schedule. I tried to get an accommodation for my ADHD but was told it was not a reasonable request. They did meet me halfway and gave me an office with a door. It helps that I am not surrounded by distractions. I hardly see anyone in the office now.
That’s a good compromise, my office is fully open, even had coworkers watching the news openly on their laptops with loud speakers, it’s impossible to get anything done.
Honestly, I adjusted my meds and it helped me power through the work despite distractions.
