Im not searching for a new job but an acquaintance reached out about a similar role at a similar energy company.Turns out 2 ppl threw my name in the hat. I looked into it and the position was posted 2 weeks ago.Their director wants to meet.I bet pay is one of the first things to be discussed so that no one’s time is wasted.Am I crazy for not wanting to entertain it for less than 20-25% base pay increase? Is it selfish to ask for more? I’m sure most salary conversations end in negotiation anyways?

I have been reading a few articles talking about how FAANG isn’t as lavish as it used to be. My first question is if that is true? If it is true, my second question is what companies out there have the pay, benefits, and perks like FAANG? My last question is if it is as difficult to get into those companies? In my opinion, this is the only way for true salary, growth, new job every three years or so, like clockwork. Otherwise, current company will make up BS excuses as to why they can’t pay you more.
Yep, been in my role coming up on three years now. One promotion. Getting lots of “promises“ like you mentioned above, meanwhile, there are other layoffs going on. Time to bounce.
Very nicely done
Although your comp is likely due to plateau, at least your cash comp. So the value prop of job hopping might diminish, and it’ll make more sense to post up for a while (eg, gain access to higher-level gigs, get equity as a part of comp, etc)

Thank you! Maybe. In process for a $400k role, so it's still working so far and I just need like 2-3 years in that one to retire..
This has been my strategy over the last eight years, and it has worked out tremendously.
69k starting to 266k 8 years later
At some point you’ll hit a plateau. You might want to do some industry research to determine how close you are to that. Based on that research it might make sense to settle into a role you actually like at a company you respect
I'm just starting to break into executive, there's no real ceiling, this goes all the way to F100 CMOs if you play it right and get lucky
Good example of a job that might have a low salary floor starting out but has a high ceiling if you can progress 👏 My line of work has a high floor but low ceiling. Good stuff OP
Thanks!
Good for you!
Working on it, thanks!
Good for you OP! Don’t let anyone tell you to stay in so called good companies. We’ve all seen the layoffs. So I say continue with what you’re doing. It’s the way.
Do you have an MBA? I’ve been working in ad agencies for about six years now and would like to go in-house and follow a similar trajectory to yours. Any tips?

I don't, outside of ibanking/big consulting I haven't seen anyone care if you have an MBA, and don't pay more if you have one. Highly suggest you work with a headhunter. Try to move into a strategist role at the agency before you exit or you'll always just be "the copy guy"
Thanks for sharing. Do you mind sharing your industry please?
Back and forth between agency and in-house in financial services
What job did you get in 2021
Current role, exec director running a brand team
What metro area did you start working in?
NYC
Has anyone ever questioned why you are moving jobs so quickly? I have always responded due to higher title and pay.
Not yet, ppl seems to accept at least 2 years if you have a good story what you're looking to learn or leverage that your current role isn't satisfying
What’s your work life balance like for the $290k/yr job?
Really good actually, 830-930 start and usually done by 430/5. Never nights or weekends, or needing to respond after hours
OP, did you actively seek each new job? Have a recruiter work for you? Other firms sought you out?
Yep, saw a job I wanted, knew ppl who worked there, talked with them, got them to hand my resume to and talk with hiring manager, applying in the system was just a formality I was already in progress at that point. Current role I just needed to do 4 30 min phone calls to make sure ppl liked me enough to work with me and got the offer
