A client asked me to go in-house. I’ll be their first in-house attorney, handling corporate and real estate issues (75-80% real estate). I can choose my title, but was offered Real Estate Legal Director, and I’ll be reporting to the CEO. Should I go with something like Director of Real Estate and Corporate Legal Affairs or Chief Real Estate Counsel? Which sounds better?

Both of your suggestions sound pretty bad. You should obviously ask for General Counsel/Chief Legal Officer.

Either Chief Legal Officer or General Counsel.

If you report to the c suite should be c title. If they say no I would be concern they bring someone more senior down the road to be above you. this happened to someone at a PE firm

CLO or GC, tell them to put some respect on your name!

Wow your suggestions are terrible. I’d go with General Counsel.

I got an offer in industry! Feeling excited but at the same time very confused. It’s a good offer that I don’t want to pass up but also feel extremely bad leaving during busy season. Is a 3 week notice enough? Do I let this opportunity go and just hope something will line up down the road ? Thoughts ?
