A month ago, I thought 2020 would be my year: promotion, a big raise, and many other good things to come. Then, corona happened. People are now talking about layoffs, little to no raises, (cont)

It’s all perspective. I can’t tell you that you will get everything you hoped for two months ago, but maybe you will grow to appreciate what you already have.

I don’t mean my text in a snarky way. I am learning to be thankful for what I have now and my financial goals two months ago will have to wait.

I am thankful that my wife and I can stay home with the kids while out of school and have no consequences.

OP the things you wished may still happen.. corona or no corona If you are destined it will happen. Believe in your self and have a good weekend.

And even a recession... feeling down tonight. Can someone please tell me everything will be okay?

I HOPE I get laid off.

I'm joking but serious. I'd love to take a severance package, but I'd hate for that to happen to other people and layoffs don't happen one by one.

It will be. Your still healthy and everyone is panicking because people are scared of the unknown. Otherwise they are panicking not for themselves but rather for sick loved ones. Its okay. Things will tide over; just gotta ride through the panic and stay mindful.

It’s okay man. Just look at historical trends, it happens every 10-15 years. SARS, 2008 recession for example. Those people were in the same shoes as you and are probably ppmds by now. Hash it and in another 5-10 years, you’re the next ppmd with your millis. You’ll be fine.

OP I hear you. This year blows.

same boat. everything will be alright my friend

Same boat, literally turned down a 30% offer because I like it here and this is promo year

Is it bad that I’m not concerned about my employment at all? Am I naive to not be concerned?

I’m on the commercial side - Does that change anything?

I have a potential 20% raise on the table...but in industry, which is not what I want in my career right now. Trying not to make such a big change out of panic but it’s tempting

Every 10 years or so something like this happens. All will be fine. If the worst is no raise or a 10 pay reduction (happened at Deloitte in 2002) it’s no big deal.

Unfortunately our clients are stopping many projects. This will impact most us so there’s nothing that can be done except to wait it out.

My dilemma… I am an injury adjuster at a carrier experiencing high inventory that’s barely manageable. A competitor offered a higher salary and manageable workload. BUT, I would like to get into underwriting. I applied for UW position w/ a different carrier and they’ve made an offer. It’s lower than my current salary and significantly lower than what I’d make by taking the first offer. Do I take the high salary and stay in claims or go for UW in hopes it will be best in long run?

So I’m only contributing to 401k enough to get employer match, and I’m saving an additional ~20% and putting 90% of that into my vanguard mutual funds. Reasoning is that I don’t want to lock away all that money maxing out 401k. Have 3 months expenses liquid in a savings account. Is this really dumb?
