Not that unusual
I like this, it’s a great way to see one of your job skills. Crush that shit, then confidently ask for more money
My issue with this is that asking someone to put together a deck and then present that work is free work. Yes, it’s great for the agency, but not so much for the applicant. Ask good interview questions and do due diligence. And realize that every candidate has strengths and weaknesses and will need some sort of training and support once they’re hired. But no, I don’t want to give you work without you giving me a job code first. I did this once and realized quickly the agency was just using their applicants to source ideas for their client.
☝🏼 is the realest thing I’ve ever heard. Gives me hope I don’t need to be something else, just try to bring kickass work to the table. And yes, at the end of the day this is just advertising.
I like that practice, especially for anyone who will be client-facing. If you can explain your point to an audience of practitioners and other account folks, it’s one more feather in your cap. It also makes it easier to justify the hire, as you’ll likely be able to jump into the work with more autonomy.
Don’t you prepare to show your book like a presentation anyway?
yikes.
I've done that a few times. it helps you see how they think about assignments, too. I enjoy doing it. helps me imagine how we might enjoy working together
