I’ve put myself up for L4 promo this cycle. Assuming I get it, what would be the best next steps to optimize for long-term growth/TC?
My understanding is that L5->L6 is extremely painful at Google. It may be easier to leave for a handful of years and gain managerial experience before returning.
L4->L5 is less challenging; however, I’m under the impression I can do this quicker at another company (if I leave after being freshly promo’d) AND get higher TC.

PwC1: it sure as hell can be strategic if you are remote and not at the client. Just did a growth strategy engagement and they preferred we work from our office for most of it, with the exception of some meetings and a couple workshops.
In no way is this is a resume building move. I get you're trying to talk yourself into the role, but don't fool yourself into thinking this helps to build a better platform should you choose to jump firms in the future.
It can't be strategic if remote brah. Sorry to disappoint.
I wouldn’t take it (and I’m one of the people who usually sings pwc’s praises on this app). Our internal roles are rarely staffed with our best or brightest, and they are they first to get taken to the woodshed when it comes to streamlining.
These internal “strategy” roles are also usually where we put people who we are having a hard time billing but don’t want to let go.
Your deal seems like a lot of bad news.
Okay, to take a loss? Already pushed very hard! Pro: No client stuff, will be “focusing on PwC Firm’s Strategic Stuff”
Con: $11k loss yearly, bonuses will be lower, and raises will be 1-4% max annually
Guess..I should stick with KPMG..but, would be nice to be around, maybe focus on MBA TOO!
🤦♀️ I don't know what to say...
5-6 years experience made manager at 27? That means you started working at like 20 or made manager in a year of joining which is unlikely
And move. Stay your ass where you are kid
So if you’re not aiming for partner your career is dead? That is an astonishingly narrow minded comment
Internal roles at consulting companies are usually treated as second class citizens
OP is going to take it, too late
OP has already made up his mind. He just wants somebody to agree with him.
Lol or your communication skills are shit
What is your goal here? Validation of your move? Not gonna get it, on paper this sounds like a terrible choice
Will be flying around quite a bit, initially, strategic financially given current business changes at PWC
It could be a short term strategic initiative to figure out the business changes - are you sure they will keep you long term? A lot of internal people have been let go recently here, I would be very careful - perhaps ask about long term career potential here
PwC doesn't give a shit about IFS. I worked in Finance in NYC. They laid off a fair amount of my former colleagues.
Bad idea. But you seem to have convinced yourself already.
Internal roles are career killers, don't do it bruh
Actually let me rephrase.. next to impossible to make partner
