PwC1: it sure as hell can be strategic if you are remote and not at the client. Just did a growth strategy engagement and they preferred we work from our office for most of it, with the exception of some meetings and a couple workshops.
In no way is this is a resume building move. I get you're trying to talk yourself into the role, but don't fool yourself into thinking this helps to build a better platform should you choose to jump firms in the future.
I didn't say that k4. I said if you want to make partner then it's a no go.. well at least your comprehension abilities are in accordance with your IQ
Guys OP has already made the decision, he/she probably effed themselves a bit
OP your typing style is fascinating
I don’t care about becoming a Partner. I will be happy with MD at the most. Not all about money kind of guy, family and wife matters a lot to me, but, also realize that I have worked very hard to become a Manager and a name for myself within my group. I can become a director in the next 1-2 years for sure, but, planning for kids as well. The way I am looking at this role is that I will get to learn a lot about the internal workings of the firm, and be involved strategically on setting up various framework as well. Agree, internal maybe looked down upon but, I will be gaining knowledge and will hopefully get to have diners with wife at home, plan kids and go back to client facing in 5-8 years or to a higher role in Corporate. It’s tough because I know I can be a director at Kpmg a lot faster when compared to PWC internal. I also care about my professional career...but, guess trying to balance out w family.
@PWC2 thank you! a bit more background—this role can’t be outsourced and also, not to mention will be working with a lot of Partners on various capital for the firm itself. Agreed, not too many smart people comments, but, MD is very bright and knows his stuff. Overall, think it maybe okay for couple of years and can always come back to client facing??
Purely Internal roles at PwC pay less
Bad*
Unless you need a salary but want to be home and focus on your MBA, I'd stay away.
Op only take if you need a chill side job for school. Think about it. If it was strategic, why wouldn't they take internal Seniors.
What's your pay? 70k?
@deloitte 3–my pay would be $130k
What level are you? Post MBA?
I agree with all comments above, thing is my practice within KPMG just did a huge restructuring can read the letters on the walls about the future here too...things not lookkng to shabby, everyone is more focused on selling now..cause they havent been able to grow. Grow with strategic clients..blah blah..reduce market outreach to limited clients and all that too..overall, future doesn’t look too well either! you know what i mean..any Risk guys here from KPMG? This will hopefully give me some downtime to focus on life, wife and maybe MBA as well. Overall, i agree this move will be painful being treated badly but, honestly my clients have been very shitty as well—and I have bent backwards and delivered ALWAYS! W client focus in mind..but, is money everything?? I am still 29 and made manager at 27..and no did not start with KPMG either..came in w 5-6 yrs of experience from the corporate side. This is not an easy choice...
Had an internal strategic role at Deloitte. You can be strategic while internal and not going to the office. Met with the CSO multiple times per week with continuous work on CXO level analyses. That said our team was 100% gone grown. No idea why pwc would go external. Also don't think because it is internal you'll work less. I worked more in that role than in client facing roles by a wide margin. If it is truly strategic I would expect similar as your "clients" are senior partners.
@KPMG3 This is 100% true. I will be working with Partners across multiple lines! I don’t know if that’s positive or negative but, would think broader network!
Why are internal roles career killers?
Very difficult to make partner.. I m assuming that's your end goal if you are in consulting..
How do you know if will be able to go back to client facing or higher role in corporate in 5-8 years?
And how do you even know they will keep you there for 5-8 years?
Don't take it! Unless you just had kids and can't pump so need to breastfeed your kids, then return to client facing. You'll be the first to go, you won't get promoted, just bad news all around.
