Anyone aware of TCS hiring process? How many days normally they take for the process. I had an interview yesterday both technical and Managerial. After that HR confirmed me over mail that I have cleared the interview rounds and asked to fill all the details on their portal. However, I haven't got any update today so I am just curious how many days they normally take to verify docs and proceed to HR discussion?Tata Consultancy Wipro Infosys IBM Accenture

1. Network hard, especially with alumni. She has a great GPA and I’m sure she can land some connections.
2. Apply anyway and mention COVID impact on the cover letter. Note that a lot of companies are aware of the internship restrictions
Thank you!
Keep trying. Do not delay graduation.
Agree w this. It’s not worth the debt.
UMD grad here. I’d encourage her to participate in the upcoming career fair, if possible. There’s definitely still a lot of time to find another opportunity if that’s the path she wants to pursue!
Do a “talking tour” - like a walking tour, but lots of Zoom coffee chats and very consistently. I’d ask the most interesting people who their top 3 folks for advice or mentorship are in the industry / life (not just their company)! Way more helpful for an introvert + gets you in a good groove :)
I recently networked with a junior soon to be senior who is currently doing a gap year / living at home. She’s slowly doing this networking approach (starting w school, friends of her profs/old boss) + trying to keep doing something full time (partial work, partial internship)
This is incredibly helpful - just passed on! Thank you

1. Keep applying, the economy is getting better and more companies are hiring
2. If #1 fails, she can apply for an internship even as a senior. Even if it’s unpaid, she’ll get the experience she needs
3. Get her a job at your company

Not sure, but an option is to enroll in summer classes at a community college and say it’s for a ‘double major’, that way she’s still technically in school and isn’t paying full university price.
UMD is about to start a workday implementation. They're always looking for student workers and WD is a really hot skill.
I did marketing prior to moving to consulting and my sister graduated last year with a marketing degree. I think it’s important to keep in mind that your first job in marketing will not be you dream job in marketing. When I was in school we all tried to get jobs at the fancy pr and advertising firms and many people who didn’t get those roles right out of college gave up. I now have a lot of former classmates who finally made it there. I got my foot in the door with nonprofit organizations, they don’t pay great but it’s great experience, generally helps a great cause, and allows you to get a nationally recognized organization on your resume with little experience. I worked with a lot of our corporate sponsors and ended up getting interviews/ offers at IBM, Boeing and Abbvie directly because of the nonprofit role. Definitely something to keep in mind. In terms of tangible advice, have a portfolio with sample work and class work ready.
This is really helpful - thank you!! We’ve been looking at the big names with no luck (no surprise there) so the nonprofit angle / smaller org is helpful.
She’s not interested in consulting or finance roles - so my company and network are less helpful, though I’ve tried where possible to get her resume in the door.
The planner in me thinks that postponing graduation and trying for a summer internship at a company that could convert to a FT offer would be best, but I also get that that’s delaying things by a year and still may or may not get her a job. Our parents are immigrants so not sure who else to turn to for advice - would appreciate thoughts here!

Does she want to teach? Even temporarily?
I came from a media agency background - a good amount of agencies have internship programs aimed at new grads that last 3ish months. It’s essentially a paid (albeit it low) tryout for a full time job. If she went that route she could get the experience without the added cost of another year. Additionally, I would say smaller agencies don’t focus too much on internships (vs corp marketing) for entry level openings, they focus a lot more on culture fit and desire to learn.
I do not. When I worked in marketing, I was in Minneapolis so I am only familiar with the smaller agencies up there. When she doing research have her look into media agencies and creative agencies. Those types tend to be smaller given they focus on one specific type of advertising (vs ad agencies being have both creative and media business units). It also be worth looking into digital media or digital marketing, once again they would be smaller given they have a narrower focus. Also, she shouldn’t be scarier to apply to full time positions instead of just the new grad internships. I hope this helps but feel free to dm with anymore questions
