Oh and the thought of not being able to afford therapy also really depresses me.
Try looking for a social worker and explain your situation. I was lucky enough to have found one who was ok with 50 bucks per session a week. Was worth it.

Did you check your mental health coverage from your medical insurance?
I'm not a fan of medication, but it could help you tread water or get out of the pool of despair so you can feel motivated to work on yourself. It can be prescribed by a GP. It doesn't have to be a long term thing. It helped me stop the cycle of overeating and drinking wine every night to self-soothe my work stress, which lead to a much happier disposition over time.
Medication shouldn't be under estimated. There's some stuff that you wouldn't even think of that makes a big difference. I'm a total naturopath type and hippie - took me forever to cave but I get acute panics attacks driving and flying and meds have helped.
@hearts&science interesting. How did you go about finding one and knowing it's legit?
It's hard in the beginning, but please make tome for healthy habits. Cook food at home - cut out sugar and most of your grains, alcohol etc. Stay active, go for a run every day or start a new hobby. I started a martial arts thing, and now I'm hooked, so I want to do it. It's not a chore anymore. Lastly, try meditation - headspace is a good place to start. It really clears your head of negative thoughts.
Hope you feel better!
@artdirector1 all sound advice. Thank you! I tried meditation before and liked it. Been awhile though so thanks for the reminder. I try to take walks outside as much as I can. Have had trouble doing more exercise wise but I'll keep trying!
