You are 31? Yup your life is over.
Let me tell you what you don't want to hear.
Stop winning like a 13 year old. Get hold of your self and move on. The attitude you are showing will do nothing but keep you down.
Wow here's the reason why people find consulting toxic
I can guarantee that approximately 0.0% of the population views a MBB job as success in life.
But 100% of MBA grads know what MBB is and there is shame amongst them, honestly MBAs are the worst about titles.
Why do you want to go to MBB?
Love low pay and more work???
Yes
Maybe consulting is not from you
If you need help and you’re at Deloitte, dm me. Things will get better, hang in there.
Yes, but only because you think you are. Chin up Bro/ette. You’re fine.

Consulting is not for everyone, that said… why does it matter if you work for MBB or not??? I started in consulting at your age as an entry level fresh out of a bachelor’s degree, I stuck around and 7 years later I’m doing quite well with it. Get out of your head… your attitude and hang-ups will define your trajectory… it’s not something you ease into, you need to make a decision to feel and act empowered, and to be a good asset to those around you.
OP - I feel you, but don't let bad characters at your firm make you think you're lesser than you are. I left EY's FSO Data Analytice practice a few months ago, after getting passed over on Manager promotions yet again. I had imposter syndrome thinking I wasn't cut out for the role, but truly I refused to do their Reg Compliance, Data controls work and pass it off as "Advanced Analytics." A poor counselor reinforced this negative perception.
Now I've left for a G-sib making Senior Manager money (:D) and doing actual data science use cases.
Feel free to DM, but in general don't let any perceived mental weaknesses affect your worth.
Here's my simple analogy / answer - Imagine if the only measure of success for MBAs was to get into MBB. So anyone who doesn't get into them, isn't good enough. In that world - you are saying other companies would be run by 'failures'? We wouldn't be seeing the amazing businesses that we see today if that was the case. mBB consultants will be among the richest / most successful people in the world. Not the case, is it?
What you are on is a discovery phase, trying to discover what you enjoy doing. It can takes years and even decades to do that. Keep experimenting and at some point you will find something that fits your interest and the times you don't you have another data point to add to your 'do not pursue' list.
Godspeed and best of luck!
Hang in there. I am post-MBA with over a decade of experience working in Engineering consultancy (non-engineer role). I don't make as much as most of you here mainly because I live in a LCOL suburb. Our clients are mainly government agencies so our salaries need to be somehow comparable to what State employees receive even though we pay higher in benefits and get less holidays.
I am trying really hard to manage my discontent. I've been applying to places so I can participate in salary negotiations and realize my earning potential, but these times are hard. Hang in there!
If any of you here are willing to give referrals, please holler or send me a smiley emoji.
Sounds tough
You’re a senior consultant at a big 4? Congratulations! You already made it. Listen, there is no one path. Don’t compare to your friends. You’re on a journey and there are multiple ways to success. I didn’t get into consulting until 40 and now I make more money than I ever dreamed and I enjoy my work. I always wanted to work for a big 4 and didn’t have the typical pedigree and resume to get noticed. I worked hard at other orgs and became successful in my own right, and had fun, enjoying what I was doing (and rarely worked more than 40 hrs). Then came a point where firms came knocking because suddenly my experience was of interest. My point is, don’t obsess with one specific path and don’t worry about your friends. They may get burned out, who knows. Focus on working hard and trying to do work you enjoy, even if just a little bit. Most people don’t have a dream job that completely fills their bucket. But if you can enjoy it somewhat, that’s important. Follow that path and your journey will be rewarding.
felt this way after going to an Ivy as a first gen and not getting a return after an internship at an IB. honestly, lifting and MMA help out as mentioned earlier in the thread

You're what the French call les incompenent
A little Home Alone quote. I see what you did there…hahahaha!
If it makes you feel better, I feel like a failure most days of the week…
Yes, you are a failure. You are here fishing for complements saying that you are doing well and so on.
Be happy where you are at
Are you in the right career to begin with? If everything feels to be such a struggle, why continue walking up that steep hill?
As my mentor would say, you may have developed a “one-itis”: trying to pursue something (MBB) or someone (like a hot person you’re interested in) who shows no interest in reciprocating. Will you be obsessing with that particular object until the end of time or will you look for other fish in the sea (of which there are plenty) that will make you happy?
Is being a strategist at MBB your definition of success… or someone else’s?
Ugh I'm that hot person that never reciprocates... still single in my 30s because i have so many options. Am i a complete failure??
This is not a personal critique, I don’t know you, but an honest reflection.
If you don’t have serious drive, ambition, and a desire to wake up in the morning and run to solve your next work problem, moving from big 4 to MBB is not going to solve any of your problems.
Have you considered a life coach? I’d focus on addressing your energy, focus, and unwillingness to address challenges head on rather than focusing on title and firm. If you solve for the former you could be successful anywhere you go. Just switching the latter will probably just dig you into a deeper hole.
Are you healthy? Do you pay your bills on time? Good means of transportation? Loving family? Any disabilities
Can you answer me those please?
