Am I being underpaid? 4 years of consulting experience, $105k @ slalom

I’ve been at Slalom for 4 years and have another 4 years of consulting experience before joining, plus 3 in industry. Came in as C. Making 132k in a tier 3 city (Denver)

It’s a mindset, if you’re happy then good for you. Know plenty of folks who make way more and are still miserable.

That seems normal, I make the same in Chicago with 2 YOE but I’m pretty specialized in a specific tech stack

like

Here’s the question you have to ask yourself: Can I afford to stay at Slalom? If you need to sleep in your own bed at night and pick up your kids everyday, I get it. But if you don’t need that flexibility and can buy your own beer, it might be time to evaluate how you can get off the generalist track, into more lucrative specialities, and very likely a different firm. There isn’t much time and I know there are trade-offs, but you really have to evaluate if you’re comfortable leaving money on the table. Also, remember that if you position yourself well, you can/could make WELL above 105k by going to industry- in your market. That’s an option!

Underpaid? Yes. There are peers with less experience making more and others making less. It’s all over the place. Some of it is friendships and politics and others - timing and need. I was making around this but no work / life balance. The whole work life balance is just marketing imo

like

Basically

That does sound pretty low - do you know how much your peers (same rank, same office) are making?

like

No idea :(

How many of those years have you spent at Slalom? Is the problem your raises or what you were offered up front?

like

What are your accomplishments? How are they above average? This is one of the first questions to ask when evaluating if you are getting paid in line with what you are delivering. Another way.. none of us were forced to take a job with our current employer..we agreed to do x to get $y. If we do only x, why should we expect to get $y+$

like

Slalom offers lifestyle that heavy-burn/high-pay firms don’t. Not going after the same opportunity types/sizes as high-paying firms. Less money to spread around. Same as Point B.

You’re probably sleeping in your own bed twice as much as higher paid peers. That’s enviable.

3 YOE at 92 as well

Depends on location, pre or post MBA, type of consulting (strategy, delivery etc), any relevant experience prior to consulting.

Hey folks. Question for the majority of us still under the big 3 holding co’s...are raises a thing anymore? I’ve been at my (smaller) agency almost 5yrs and got one raise (a nice $12k bump) during that time—is that sufficient? Is one increase in that span normal? I also recognize being somewhere 5 years is rare these days. The honeymoon period at any agency seems to be 2.5—3yrs before bolting. Not complaining, just asking. Have y’all been getting raises/bumps in any kind of regular cycle? Thx.
