You’re just ignorant of the underlying reasons for drug abuse and addicts, which is understandable if you haven’t been in their shoes or have close family members with mental illness. Not many choose to take drugs because it’s so fun and amazing and all of that. Similar to alcohol addiction and smoking.
It is easier to ignore the world’s woes. You’re generally in a better mental space if you don’t give a damn about society’s challenging problems. And if that’s how you feel, good for you. Hope you never have to be affected deeply such that you would be forced to understand something better before casting judgment.
Sorry no. My BIL is a sociopath with a drug and gambling problem. My in laws enable him by giving him all of their excess money and money they need to live on, to the point I end up supplementing them so they have money to live. He won’t accept or seek treatment and really needs to be cut off.
The point of drugs being illegal is that they take away people's health and ability to make good decisions.
So on the one hand all people have to take some control of their lives and do their best to make hard decisions as well as being responsible for making bad decisions.
But we have to have some room for the fact that those drugs are doing to them the thing we make them illegal for. And right now there are many people who want to get clean but we do not fund treatment programs, even when treatment programs would be cheaper than prisons.
So be sort of mad but vote for more treatment that would STOP people from being abusers, rather than prison where people can still get them while inside.
