Hi!
I have 7+ years of experience in small business management and operations within the Hospitality Industry (franchised motels).
For these last four years, I've been a technician in semiconductors (to have health insurance and actual income).
What side job can I start that can bloom into a real business? Is there a way to get an online business that I can manage from home for 3-4 hours every day?
Amway/MLM is not being considered as I am not a good salesperson.

The stakes are wildly different. If my team lead is off their game or whiffs on a new pitch by taking their eye off the PowerPoint deck for 1/100th of a second because they were mentally distracted and can’t regain their focus, it doesn’t lead to a snapped vertebrae.
Not Everyone have the privilege to say, STOP, My well being is important. Mental health is not just for athletes, the stress and pressure I have at my work has been challenging, if I step back from a project I am running, I may not have a job. Overall, I commend SB, making that decision must have been hard, her action is inspirational, it may have future consequences but her health is more important. She is an awesome gymnast, she will bounce back😊. You know what, me too…Is KPMG hiring?
I got off my McK engagement mid project due to severe anxiety. My HR, EM, Partner were ALL supportive.
They understood that my health was more important than the study.
They also understood that having me perform half ass was prolly not best for client so dropping me mid way and potentially picking up someone else was optimal too
SA2 - how did she impact her country? We are talking about sports here. Does the US not winning gold actually affect anyone’s day to day lives in this country? Way to be dramatic, jeez.

How about this. Simone and those who love and care about Simone doesn't have to care about what the haters think. When the choice is between her health/well being and her career, guess what should come first. Maybe she toughes it out, maybe she scores another gold and that leads to glory and hurray for the country. But if that ultimately ends in a breakdown or her falling on her neck, guess who are people who have to live with that tragedy for the rest of their lives. She did what she had to do and she didn't jeopardize anybody else's life.
Who are any of us to judge her? What right do we have to tell her to risk her life?
“Hey boss, if I present your ambitiously footnoted liquidity projections, there’s a 20% chance I will *literally* snap my neck”
“And?”
Elite gymnastics has long had a reputation for encouraging girls and young women to put their mental and physical well being aside in the pursuit of championships/medals/glory/etc. Like Kerri Struggs competing in the Olympics with a broken ankle and the assault suffered by hundreds of active gymnasts at the hands of their doctor. Simone pulling out of the competition like she did is unprecedented and makes her even more of a role model for the next generation of gymnasts. For possibly the first time in the history of the sport someone who is pretty much indisputably the greatest gymnast in the world has shown the next generation that it's ok to walk away and that there shouldn't be an expectation that they put aside their mental and/or physical health for trophies/titles/accolades. I hope that Simone's actions in Tokyo show the people around the world who look up to her that it's ok to be vulnerable and to push back on the mental and physical abuse that has plagued the sport for decades.

Brady and Lebron are 20 year veterans in their late 30s/40s. Biles is 24. She’s at such a high level above her competition that they don’t even know how to score her any more. The pressure she’s gone through at her age is unfathomable. Literally know one in the history of sports has endured that. To say or infer she’s weak in any way is ignorant and insecure.

Why do you care so much what someone else does with their career and mental health?

This is her job. People get sick and have to dip out of important things at work all the time. I don’t see this as any different - if anything she has a stronger case to dip because she could seriously injure herself and impact the rest of her career.
For context, a large part was not feeling confident in her routine and wanting to mitigate the risk of very serious injury. Compare this to physical injuries in other sports. When KD came back early from injury to play for the warriors in the finals a few years back, he wasn’t able to win it for them AND he got injured worse than before. It’s widely considered a mistake to play him. However, whether or not it was a good decision is not a function of the outcome, it’s a function of risk and reward which is consistent for either outcome. Why is it different here? She has a long career ahead of her.
We have a phase is skiing: sometimes the best run is the one you don’t take
First off, I agree that these athletes or even office workers would get heat for quitting mid-stream. Sometimes deservedly so.
That said, screw all the haters. If I were Simone Biles I’d do what was best for me and give all y’all the big middle finger. Look up Kerri Strug. Her coaches forced her to compete on a bum ankle and she had to retire from gymnastics at 18. The coaches? They went on to long careers sexually assaulting many generations of gymnasts.
So yea, doesn’t matter what anyone thinks, she did what’s best for her and I would too. None of these critics are going to pay her rent.
It’s impossibly inappropriate to comment on her pulling out of the games when we don’t know the exact issue. Could it be the pressure of trying to perform under the covid cloud? PTSD from the larry nassar scandal? None of us know. So none of us should be comparing her to Lebron or Brady. Give her a break.

For the people supporting Biles, do you have the same view about Naomi Osaka? Why? Why not?
Yup. Osaka did what she needed to do.
The frustration is she says there are more important things to life than gymnastics, which is true, but she decided that for her teammates too and put additional burden on them when they had to complete routines twice to make up for her sudden exit. She should not consider coming back for individual events later this Olympic out of respect for her team.
I would assume all teams are prepared for the possibility of something going wrong during competition. The coaches seemed on board with her decision, so it’s possible this was even discussed beforehand (she’d been off her game since qualification). Chiles looked nervous but not unprepared to step in.

I agree with OP on this one. She has years to prepare herself mentally/physically to compete every four years. She should’ve done more leading up to this to seek counseling or medication if necessary.
Why wasn’t 4 years enough time for her to prepare? And all of a sudden she needs mental health time?
EY6 - to put it simply: your opinion on this matter is factually incorrect. While some struggle with long-term, chronic mental health issues, even those individuals have "good days" and "bad days" which are impossible to predict.
Separatly, PTSD is a disorder which can be triggered suddently by any number of things (i.e. a smell, a sound, an anniversary, an event) .
I am not Simone Biles. I do not know if somethinf specific triggered this event. However, if I had to imagine what it's like to live her life for just one day, I imagine that the Olympic Games bring her a variety of emotions - including both joy of her success AND terror of the abuse she experienced at the hands of the pedophile & sexual predator who practiced as the team doctor for YEARS.
I imagine the Olympic Games are triggering for these gymnasts who were sexually assaulted under the guise of performance-enhancement and health.
And this is not even considering the fact that Americans are placing the burden of success or failure solely onto Simone's shoulders while also diminishing her greatness by penalizing her through scoring "protocols".

I think the way she has supported and cheered on her teammates says a lot more about her character than pulling out for mental health reasons. She doesn’t owe this country anything. They replaced her no different than your employer would replace you.
You are correct that LeBron would get killed if he quit right in the middle of the Finals. I can already see the “LeFraud” and “LeMickey” comments on Twitter. Whether that’s ok or not is a different argument.
Was Brady penalized for being too good? Were point potentials taken from him because it would be "unfair" to the other players who couldn't perform as well? Has he been vilified as the sole reason for the team's losses?
The answer would likely be no BUT IT SHOULD BE YES. No one should do anything that harms their mental health first. And they should have the right to decide for themselves.
I think she looked at the negatives of dropping out and her current stress and anxiety, which must be crushing, and made a decision that she is totally entitled to make. I do not think the overall reaction has been negative. Some people made negative comments on random message boards or Facebook comments, I guess, but it is clear the overall message in media is that this was “brave”. I don’t think this was brave, I think it was a calculated decision and she did what was best for her, which is fine.
Auburn U gymnast hurt herself real bad. Simone went with her gut knowing she wasn’t in the right headspace. The injuries from gymnastics can be fatal. I support her decision
