I took the counter offer and stayed. That was four years ago and glad I stayed. It was a $46k bump plus they reorged my reporting structure that I complained about. Better to not take the title bump. You want $40k to lateral and then get another $40k with the promo.

When I was about to leave one of the B4, the partner was able to offer $30k extra without batting an eye. Wasn’t even a situation where he needed to talk to HR or anything. Maybe $40k wouldn’t be too out of the question.
Mine was just shy of $40K and they matched without blinking.
To get the full match, you probably have to also get a title bump since that’s what you’re comparing. You can probably negotiate a 20-30k pay bump but a title bump is always harder.
Update: I just got the initial offer and it’s a 52k bump. Surprised it’s that high tbh, but even though that’s great by my standards, I’m thinking I can counter and increase it by another 6-8k….
