Avoid calls and instant messaging.

If you can’t avoid that just be sure to email them anything and everything that was discussed and agreed to. Example: if during a call you agreed to turn in work next week make sure to reiterate it in an email to that person.

Doing this would avoid any unclear expectations that person may have. You need to be on your toes with people like that and unfortunately you need to over communicate

Keep a record of conversations. Use emails instead of IM. Have group sessions instead of one-on-one sessions. Cc higher-ups whenever as much as possible.

additionally, if you do use IM, keep screenshots of the important parts of your conversation. i do this since our messages are deleted weekly and i save them in a folder called “CYA,” which stands for “cover your ass”

You have to leave very good paper trails and use those to defend yourself where appropriate .

CYA. Document everything. Don’t respond to anything unless it is specifically directed to you. When addressed, also don’t say anything. Just summarize it in an email and add the attachments.

Looking for advice: I have an analyst (9 months on the job) who still doesn’t get it - repeatedly misses comments, doesn’t follow instructions, slow, etc. I have raised this to both my MDs and they seem to be adopting a “not my problem” approach when I mention it. I'm a cashier. We just got a new manager, and she's making things really hard for us. What should I reasonably expect from a junior?

I manage a junior developer that's been with the company for about 18 months. I end up providing them of TON of support. I need to give them extremely detailed instructions or they fail. For bugs, I need to point them to a specific function that's causing the bug. For new features, I'm basically writing their method signatures and defining their test cases.

I've tried asking them to do more on their own, but when I do, they fail spectacularly.

Over the past year, my counsel is constantly judged by a select few senior business folks (eg arguing over FTC compliance, IP risk counsel, and even simple things regarding NDAs that any attorney wouldn’t question. It’s very frustrating that my own team is the one I have to defend my logic to (and not opposing counsel). Does anyone else have that one person who is more senior than you that is just always so condescending while adding no value themselves? Big4 has clear trajectory and interesting work.

F100 has 14% bonus, perm remote, and immediate vesting 401k over 7%.
