Any book recommendations? Not much of a reader but need a Hobby to decompress from work (that doesn’t involve Netflix)

I used to read a lot when I was younger but got out of the habit. I bought a kindle paperwhite and downloaded Libby. You can check out books (and audiobooks) from your public library. I’m in the DC area so a lot of the libraries have reciprocity and I have a ton of books available to me, but it may be a little different depending on where you are.

This way, you can just return a book you don’t like and takes the risk out of spending $10-$30 on something you might not finish. It may be a way for you to explore different genres without risk.

The Plague - Albert Camus

What’s wrong with nextflix...

Weapons of Math Destruction

More than Enough x Elaine Welteroth

The Splendid and the Vile by Erik Larson. Also, The Garden of Beasts, also by Erik Larson is awesome and eerily timely.

Following for all the great recommendations here

Fifteen dogs + the black spruce. Great recent-ish novels from Canadian authors. Bonus point: If you enjoy them, the 2 authors wrote several related books as good as these ones

Steve Jobs by Isaacson,
The everything store
Ride of a lifetime

--> gave me a lot of inspiration which I have been missing lately

Books by Vince Flynn - Total Power, Transfer of Power, Term Limits, etc
Books by David Baldacci - Stone Cold, Absolute Power, The Winner

Lovecraft Country by Matt Ruff
How to be Antiracist by Ibram X. Kendi
Moneyball by Michael Lewis

Some suggestions…

Help me with my struggle!

I'm in Oklahoma, and an avid Aldi shopper. Prior to COVID, my favorite merlot was routinely stocked there - under $6 a bottle and better than many $30 bottles I've had. It was by Burlwood Cellars. Sadly, supply chain issues have apparently done a number on Aldi's wine selection and it's not carried there anymore. I've searched high and low for a comparable merlot, but to no avail. So I need alternate suggestions or better still, somewhere I can buy my old fav.

Warm Cinnamon Rolls to start the day.

Cavatappi in Roasted Red Pepper Cream Sauce

Tired of of the same old boring tomato marinara sauce? Try a roasted red pepper cream sauce!

Red bell peppers are roasted in the oven until sweet. It is then blended with caramelized onions, garlic, red pepper flakes, sun dried tomato paste, and cream into a silky, smooth and velvety sauce. Finish the sauce with a knob of butter and coat your pasta. Cavatappi works well here. Don’t forget to shave a little Pecorino Romano

I give my cell phone to all clients routinely. However, there are always 1 to 2 clients who abuse this and it seems as soon as their cases are over I find a new one and it is making me rethink. I hate to do this because 98% do not abuse it and I like being connected to my people. Thoughts??

So I work for a small company as a SEM/Director… which in my world just means I am really Lead Developer, Part BA and part product owner as well as reviewing the devs. I came up in this company starting at about SE3 of 5 so the position is just kind of what I made it. I have recently been getting interest from some larger companies like Amazon. Long preamble to ask, what are the day to day responsibilities/expectations of an SEM at a FAANG?

Ola amigos, are you down for December Coffee Crew? I can find a spot downtown or midtown TO, if that works for y’all. DM me if you are interested and I can kick off a WhatsApp group to plan further! TIA ❤️

Home office preference question. I am getting ready to redo the layout of my home office. One option I'm considering would have my desk facing a wall. I am wondering if anyone with this current setup has any feedback about it. I would face the wall so that I would have a better background for video conferences (am on about half the day) and also my cord situation would be cleaner.

So i have been fortunate that i have managed to go through my career without the need for a degree. I was lucky enough to have been hired by one of the worlds top consulting firms, worked with a whole lot of big clients and travelled a lot. It's gotten to the point where I am not even asked about the lack of a degree on my resume. Personally though, it bothers me. I have a whole bunch of certifications in my industry…but just no formal degree. (cont'd)
