Most of the above stated by BCG1 is false.
I am a Digital Expert in the US. I went from Senior Analyst to Specialist (Associate) in 1 year. From Specialist to Expert (Engagement Manager) in 1.5 years.
I know people who made it to Associate Partner from Expert in 1.5 years, 2 years, and 3 years. You have the flexibility to be at the same level a little longer but nothing is stopping you from being promoted if you want to and work towards it.
My peers have gone on Search (legit know 3 Experts who went on Search in the past year), allotted budgets for travel are the same (I have mostly been on travel projects and hence know), all consultants on expert track are eligible for education reimbursement (I am considering another masters degree and hence verified this 2 weeks back)
Comp is generally 10-15% lower. Hope this helps :)
All McK partners are equity partners now. This was not true 5 years ago but it is now.
In general it’s lower than the comparable tier in the generalist track (my experience was around 20% lower when I was at McK). Time to promotion is also longer, though of course will vary based on your practise area, individual performance, etc. If you think about a promotion in the generalist side as happening every 2 years or so, you have up to 3-4 years for the same band (I have friends who are strong performers who are still the same band 4 years later). On the expert side, there’s less of a push to get you up the ladder. It’s called a “grow or go” model — so as long as you are learning and developing, you aren’t necessarily being pulled into a higher band
2 years. But yea, hopefully things have changed for the better. From what I know of friends who are still there, these generally don’t seem to fixed
Digital track might be different. I was on the healthcare expert track and those were the differences I saw / still see with people there
Makes sense and also appreciate your insights too!!
