We are Grant funded Preschool for All. Inclusion is the H-A-R-D-E-S-T thing I have ever had to do or endure. Severe autism rules my life and most days feels like it sucks all the learning out of the room for all the children. It is hard enough to deal with twenty three and four year olds daily. Let alone add severe behaviors to the mix.
We are a public school program and have full inclusion. I wouldn’t want it any other way!
I also think that a truly play-based classroom works for most children.
We have some classes with inclusion , but they are not severe, most of the children in special
Ed. Mainstream our classrooms little by little and they begin staying for 15 min and later on half an hour, and so on until they stay most of the three .5 hrs. After that is the special Ed teacher and the teacher think they are ready in the following iep. Meeting they bring it up to the parents.
I am a full time inclusive PreK teacher. I can try to answer questions or give suggestions. Just understand I ain’t perfect.
