I really feel for you and suffer from similar bouts of sleeplessness. This may be of no help given the severity of your circumstances, but if you are like me during those times, you are desperate for any solution.
I came across this book in r/sleep, and it has actually helped me on nights I am laying awake and worrying. Others said it helped with insomnia they’d had for years.
I don’t know of any real scientific studies behind it, but it’s pretty cheap on kindle.

Thank you so much for this. I’m definitely going to check it out!
I have been the same way. There are tons of articles about “sleeplessness for me time” during the pandemic, which I really relate to. Not sure if your anxiety and sleeplessness is fueled by that, but for me it helped to take a full hour to myself for lunch and stopping work to eat dinner at an earlier hour. Also, putting my phone away has been important. I try to put it in the kitchen to charge at 10pm and don’t touch it until after I wash my face in the AM. Doomscrolling is real.
Could it be that you’re not getting enough vitamin D/your body is thrown off from being inside all day? I haven’t tried those lamps, but I know they’ve helped some people reset their rhythm.
Good luck! People underestimate how much sleep can mess with your life.
I’ve heard the same! Might check those out as well
I’m having this issue as well. A few ideas that sometimes help me. I listen to ASMR before bed (not for everyone but I find certain kinds really calming). This requires using your phone so that’s a downside but if you just listen to it and don’t watch it can make you quite sleepy. If you must use your phone before bed, def adjust settings with brightness and to turn down blue light. If you are working late on a desktop computer or watching something on a laptop, try the Flux app which gradually yellows the screen according to the local time.
The “doom scrolling” is a real issue for me. I have a parent with Covid right now in a facility and I have to force myself from reading the news, it’s too much.
Anyway other than that, chamomile, candles, a warm bath or shower seem to help a bit.
Folks say exercise helps but I haven’t found the energy in the pandemic era myself...
I hope your parent gets well soon. That’s got to be so rough, and I’m sorry you have to deal with that.
Finding the energy for exercise or even normal things I used to enjoy has been so hard lately. But all of your tips are really helpful. I think blue light is probably a big part of it, so I’m going to try out whatever I can to help minimize how much of it I’m taking in.
Just had some chamomile tea after a hot shower, so here’s hoping tonight could be different 🙏🏻
I used to take melatonin for a few years but in the fall the nightmares started getting really awful and I decided to stop. It would help me fall asleep, but not stay asleep. Now I can’t fall asleep for hours or stay asleep through the night.
I have an anxiety disorder and am on medication for it. I recently switched the time of day I’m taking it from night to morning in case it was causing the insomnia. No change.
I can’t really try any other natural sleep supplements like cbd or anything because they may have bad interactions with my meds.
I’ve been drinking some chamomile tea blends before bed and they help make me sleepy. I also try to work with some essential oils to create a calming environment. But I still can’t sleep through the night.
I’m beginning to feel really desperate. I feel sick all the time from exhaustion. My anxiety and depression have been so high from it as well. I have no energy which is affecting how much I do at work. I’m not falling behind, but I know I can do more and feel like I’m only doing the bare minimum. I have no motivation to do anything really because all I want to do is just. Rest. But I haven’t been able to.
Sorry this is a lot of you’ve read this far. I’ve started talking with my therapist about it. And I’m going to talk to my psychiatrist as well. But I’m open to any tips or suggestions you may have.
