Interviewer shares a case prompt that typically reflects the practice area you are interviewing for (I.e. Tech-Cloud Migration, M&A-Carveout, etc.). The interviewer will give you high level information about client - means of business, industry, # of employees, office locations, etc. - and they will highlight the problem they are looking for you to break down/solve. Historically, prompts have been derived from actual consulting projects West Monroe has tackled with their clients.

Once you are given that information, you start asking questions/gathering requirements/dissecting it further whatever you want to call it--bulk of the interviewer is candidate led and discovery focused. TAKE NOTES. Questions should be asked through the lens of "will this information be important for me to give the best possible solution/go-forward strategy?" Questions should not be too pointed in one area but rather broad to paint the full picture. They promote asking questions related to People, Process, and Technology. Interviewers have a guide with hypothetical responses for any relevant questions you ask, and if you ask questions that may be off track they will try to steer you back on track. The best case responses ask a healthy amount of questions to gain a real solid understanding of the client engagement to allow for the most complete solution.

After Discovery - give your solution for the project that is based on the information gathered through Q&A. DO NOT END THE INTERVIEW WITHOUT SOME FORM OF RECOMMENDATION. There is no clear right/wrong - just how viable versus how far off from viable your proposed solution is. Some of the big issues candidates run into from my experience:

A) jumping right into solutioning without discovery. Even if you do cloud migrations all the time and the case prompt is cloud migration-based, focus on the specific case client/problem and ask questions without assumption. Large part of assessing candidate in this interview is how they problem solve and critically think, how they break down the problem and the relevance of questions asked, how they use the responses to those questions to open doors into further questioning when it makes sense, etc. An off-base solution can be overcome oftentimes when it's clear from the Discovery that they know what they are doing in a consulting scenario.

B) not giving a solution/recommendation/go-forward strategy at the end of the interview. At it's core, the case interview is a problem-solving interview. Even if the solution is basic, knowing this ahead of time, don't run into the trap of asking questions for 40 of the 45 mins and not having any time to collect your thoughts and propose something at the end.

For 45 mins - roughly 5 mins for intro to interviewer, expectations explained, and case prompt shared with you. 25-30 mins for breaking down the problem and gathering relevant information (Discovery). 5-10 mins for recommending solution and feedback to close it out.

Hope this helps.

Hi
I have received an offer from a company and I'm in the second stage of interviews with another company. I am very interested to see if I could make it through for the second company. So can I accept the offer from first company and then if second one also sends an offer then let the first company know I would like to reject? Also i am on H1B visa. Should I be concerned with that?

I'm holding an offer from MakeMyTrip and another offer from OlaElectric. Ninjacart is willing to make me an offer. But they're saying that they'd discuss the offer only after the other company that I'm interviewing with has come up with an offer first. There's been a delay from HRs of the companies in a similar way. How do I urge them to send me the offer letter without sounding pushy? I had reached out to some of the HRs myself. Would that be too awkward if I accept & back out their offer?

However in project i was treated as team member l. Initially i was okay as i thought i will be familiar with environment and later will take more responsibility.
But then they gave me release after few months.
No hike also this year.
Future also seems unclear as i feel low self-esteem seeing collegues my experience earning well and having better roles.
I really think joining IBM was wrong decision.
