Modern problems require modern solutions.

If you’re white like me it’s so important to realize that we were raised in a society where institutionalized racism is normalized, and we were born with privilege. You can’t choose the color of your skin, but you can choose to put ego aside and reflect on why this isn’t happening to me, and be vocal about being anti-racist.
How long were you a junior?
This shouldn’t be news to people but it is.

I got the job. That is all.

yes, it's discouraging at times, but then I remember that we're all on our own paths and I'm not in competition with anyone.
I feel far behind in my career and salary
@Cm1 all the power to them. I just meant the job market being a bit easier now where they got jobs straight out of college as opposed to ppl like myself that struggled to land a job in the industry because of the market after graduation. Thus feeling behind
What if the young coworker deserved the higher position?
Have to remind myself not to compare but it's hard. I have friends who are younger than me but levels higher. We do diff things and have had diff paths.
I feel bad that I'm so much older than my bosses, not because I don't respect them or think that they deserve it, but because sometimes they feel intimidated by me when they shouldn't. I totally respect them and their abilities. If I disagree, it's from a creative stand point not an "I know better because I've seen more" place.
I think one thing I've realized is you can fall into a trap by comparing yourself too much to your peers. Unfortunately paths aren't always linear or fair and the overall job market, company financials, politics, etc can all have an affect. It's a constant struggle for me but I've tried to work hard at gratitude and also finding purpose and validation beyond the office so all my self worth isn't tied up in my title or paycheck. What I do know is that whenever I get obsessed with comparisons I take my eye off the ball of learning and improving myself, because someone will always be on a better path for reasons that seem unfair. It also becomes the lesson that you can't expect things to unfold a certain way and have to keep your eyes open for the time luck could unfold in your favor.
Feel ya OP! Agencies may encourage the young, but clients want age/wisdom so it will even out.
Well, we work for the same company, and planners actually value my input because I don't want people judging me based on my age (:
Yes, it's easy to feel discouraged by this. You can still be happy for them, but also discouraged.
I can see why people are commenting about jealousy, but that's not always the case. You can very well be disappointed (with yourself) with where you are compared to where you'd like to be without being jealous.
Solely due to job market? Hmmm. Any chance of the green eyed monster?
Art Director 1 you have an excellent perspective, thank you
Age, like gender or race, is a discriminatory way to gauge someone’s fit for a title or a position.
If you want to be in the position someone else is in, figure out how they got there and do it better.
