Hi, I am a sophomore at the University of Pittsburgh looking for internships for summer 2023. I’ve applied to internships at all the big 4 firms as well as big banks (MS, GS, Bofa). (Within Big4 I am interested in consulting/advisory/strategy) So far I have had no look with applications even progressing to interview stages. They all just say application submitted. What can I do to get my application past that inititial submission stage, whether it be networking, going to career office, etc?

Is it wrong that I feel so much more motivated to get a new job now that my SO got a raise and is making more than me? Of course I’m happy for them but it puts makes my sad state of compensation at D feel even worse.

Firm recently paid out 4% bonus to every employee at end of fiscal year as a profit share bonus. This was after raises given in early Fall of 3%-8% range. A tax senior’s response to me was that after all that work last year the 4% fell small and seemed like firm was greedy holding back remaining profit from expense savings and layoffs. My response was silence at first as I mentally went over the three values I hope to exhibit in leadership (honesty, empathy, humility), next I....

A f i see the salary range on Glassdoor under jobs to apply next to the job I want to apply. Should I see the highest number range as the salary for that position or should I estimate it to the middle of the range? In the interview they haven’t asked me what are my salary expectations yet but when they do, is the salary ranges highest range a reliable source to look at?

Dear Peanut paying companies (TCS especially), don’t you have some basic manner in valuing the precious time of Candidates? When you’re scheduling interviews, you asked about the current salary and expectation. Even though knowing the peanut you’re going to offer is way below Candidate’s current salary, why are you still processing for further interviews? Don’t you ashamed of yourself calling as a Recruiter? These are basic manners/commonsense, which you guys are unaware of!!!

I have a question for those who prep individual tax returns. My parents claim my grandfather as a dependent on their tax return and due to their low income, receive PTC for the premiums they pay on his insurance (not eligible for medicare). However, would it be advantageous to have him file for his own tax return (he stays with my parents and doesn't have his own proof of residency via bills). If so, can he get PTC if his income is 0?

Currently talking to recruiters for a new job and it is honestly such a turnoff when they talk too much about having a strong company culture and/or talking about making sure I'm a good fit culturally. For me that borders on culty and is a red flag. I would much rather hear from a recruiter that a workplace's "culture" is that they are accepting of all cultures, diversity, and personality types.
