This is a bullshit program that admits anyone with a pulse. That being said, it’s great for filtering purposes, so I can filter out prestige whores from actual intelligent people
I did one of the certificates. It didn't help me at all with jobs. Ended up getting a full MBA from NYU after. Now I don't even put it on my linkedin.
My wife just finished her Master’s in Finance through the Extension School. Make no mistake, it is still Harvard, both in name and rigor. The difference is the flexibility, she was able to do 2/3 of her course work online and 1/3 in person. Yes, they do still require in person courses. She truly values the relationships that she was able to make with people across the world through the program. It is not just about the education, but also the connections that give the program its value.
To bad it’s not AACSB accredited
Do it if:
1) you’re only doing it to learn. If you’re doing it for the Harvard name or Harvard OCR, it’s going to be a disappointment. Even if you get access to Harvard campus recruiting, recruiters and employers don’t see this as on par with HBS or other Harvard grad programs.
2) or you’re trying to build an alternate transcript to boost your academic credentials (esp if you have a low UG GPA) in preparation for applying to a proper, top notch graduate program
Just my $0.02. To each their own
If you have to ask...
I don’t know... it’s not an HBS degree. So I guess if the price is in line with other not HBS degrees. Seems like degrees these days are largely valued based on selectivity... it helps companies with their own selection knowing that someone else already screened you.
What is the selectivity of that program?
I would be cautious. The rigor simply isn't there. There is no admissions criteria really. I never really felt challenged by most of my peers in the program. Its only good if you want to learn for the sake of learning. Even then, most of the learning will have to be self-taught. As far as brand credibility goes, I had an interviewer blatantly call me out saying 'you only put this here because it says harvard' ... I didn't get that job obviously.
Can’t do a full time program and want to keep working. Not sure if this is viable alternative to an online MBA like Kelley.
So I did took courses there to strengthen my academic background for an Econ PhD. Id like to think that it helped me get into the target schools (top 10), but in all honesty it was more for heckling the pre-reqs than anything. Most of the kids in there were 14 year old nerds. Not great for your consulting career.
A 730+ GMAT is far cheaper, takes less time, and goes much farther for grad school admissions than any extension school class
