Anyone else worried about the new Manhattan DA, increasing crime, and having to commute once we return to the office?

I should add, SF is currently attempting to recall the DA. This type of policy making is not good for a civilized society.
Need to recall the congresswoman
Crime will likely increase though the chances of something happening to you while commuting to work is probably still fairly low.
Definitely see the concern though, not sure why everyone is trying to clown you
This post is giving me vibes of:
"I'm from a wealthy suburb and I don't understand the city. I am afraid of a gang war erupting in Bryant Park."
Root causes........please......
I am worried. I have lived in NYC for nearly a seven years and the last year I have felt genuinely unsafe.
In the last three months, I have seen, or personally been part of (somebody getting in my face, threats, etc.), an incident EVERY SINGLE TIME I have ridden the subway - including a very graphic threat of assault a few days ago while I was just standing there minding my own business.
I no longer take the subway after dark, and try to walk to work. For the first time I have considered leaving the city, so yes - I am nervous. FWIW I am a petite woman who looks very young for my age and live in Manhattan.
This pandemic certainly exasperated a problem that was always there but has now spread to the better parts of city. The more marginal areas have always experienced these situations, but when people say in the UES feel it then it has to be taken seriously now. It’s not the way it should be but it has always been that way. Everyone deserves to be safe and protected.
I am born, raised and live here. The 90’s was probably the peak where things were good, relative prosperity can help reduce crime. One DA can’t solve all the problems. It takes a collective, the problems are complex not easy to solve unless everyone is of one mind and culture. We are also a violent culture to begin with. The cynic in me thinks those in power in this city are hoping that by gentrifying NYC crime will go down. I hope not but it doesn’t seem the power brokers care that much. It’s just easy to destroy and remake. I hope I am wrong.
The first few comments on here are so frustrating. OP has every right to be concerned with this. If I had to guess, I’ll bet Mck1, KPMG1, PWC1, KKR1 etc have either not spent much time in SF or ever been the victim of a crime. Good for you for feeling like tough guys though, bravo.
OP it’s a real concern. Odds are you will be fine, this won’t suddenly convince thousands of people to go and commit crimes. One of the major problems is overpopulation in jails and prisons. The folks in the system need to be rehabilitated and helped so they can be part of society again. Not neglected so they end up back there within a year of leaving.
Couldn’t have said it better myself PwC1
Modeling anything after SF right now is not a good idea
Reading the comments here is so depressing.
I was born in NYC at Lenox Hill hospital and apart from 4 years, I have lived here my entire life. I remember the bad ole days of the ‘90s and see things slipping backwards. I’ve always considered myself extremely liberal, but I guess not wanting to be victimized makes me an overreacting pearl clutching conservative(?!?!).
If the past 6 years weren’t enough to prove we’re living in the darkest timeline, guess DA Bragg is out to prove a point.
So blatant nepotism is fine when your side is doing it?
Exhibit A of how brainless political tribalism is rotting out this country.
How in the world would this affect commuters?
Commuters are going into Penn Station, Port Authority, and GCS. They're in the safest parts of the city, they're not in Brownsville or South Bronx
Also, your link is broken.
P1 is it a horribly right wing place. Where are the elftist policies? The actual leftist policies, not your boogeymen?
Labour rejected Corbyn, an actual left wing person. As far as I'm concerned, theyre little better than Tories
Just moved from SF to NY. OP is right. This will be a disaster for the city.
Ya’ll need to talk to some people from SF before you judge OP. The concerns are real FOR EVERYONE, not just commuters.
You know whats a real concern of mine? Reliable public transportation. Maybe if the subways came more frequently, I would be less time in a potentially dangerous subway situation
Yep, I'm also worried (and angry) about these policies.
I think (thought?) I was ride or die New York. But a year ago I started thinking hard about paying the highest taxes in the country for. . .for what? Seriously, where does the tax money go? Clean streets? Safe subways? Crime prevention? Care for the needy? Nope, nope, nope, and nope.
And now I hear NYC will no longer consider resisting arrest a crime.

It’s a trumped up charge to get Black and Brown people into the system.
How can someone’s only charge be resisting arrest? What were they being arrested for in the first place?
I wish that non-minorities could see how the police interact with minority communities. I’m an Ivy League educated Black woman who has been randomly antagonized and belittled by police officers who clearly had a chip on their shoulder and were just looking for someone to disrespect.
If I didn’t know how to play the game (use my professional speaking voice, carry my Ivy League alumni bag everywhere), I’m sure I could have ended up in a jail cell just because some cop was trying to reach a quota or felt like “having some fun”.
It really saddens me that my post was such a forewarning to what happened over the weekend.
For those of you that made fun of this post and think I’m pearl clutching, how many of us have to die before the danger is real to you?
For those that don't know, Michelle Go, an SM at Deloitte, alumna of Stern, was murdered over the weekend at Times Square Station. An ex-con pushed her onto the tracks of an oncoming R train at 9:40 on Saturday morning.
OP hasn’t left the house in a while

I don't understand if this is true, why it would only affect commuters? Are you just saying this because you are a commuter.
Where in the post did OP say it’ll only affect commuters?
Obviously OP is concerned because they’re a commuter? What????

Take a deep breath…you might want to rethink living in NY if you see such severe looming problems—in your mind’s eye.
Hopefully Mayor Adams will win the day and common sense will prevail.

He is powerless to stop this deranged man. Bragg needs to be removed from office. Who the heck voted for him???
I love this bowl
Ye I am not happy about that. It only going to make things more worse. I have travel a lot but the SF homeless people are crazy I don’t want New York like that.

I want NYC to be safe, but I also want these housing prices to go down, so this is tough 🧐
