Anyone ever leave a FTE job with full benefits for a 1 year contract? I'm hoping to avoid future regrets - am definitely burned out and under-comped at my current position and we've been losing team members almost every week to greener pastures. I've been at the same place since I started in tech, from an intern to a PM, 6 YOE. Currently managing a peer (!) and reporting to a VP. The contract is for a company I'm interested in working for, but no conversion guarantees and I'm nervous. Stories?

In negotiation for a Manager Role for BNY Mellon (grade K). Looking for some guidance on how hard I can push the issue with increasing my offer.
My convo with the HR recruiter was that he would push for $130k plus a sign on bonus. Offer is coming back at $125k with no bonus. Exiting my current position I'll be leaving a 3% pay increase, $12k bonus payout next month and full remote work on the table. Those considered it would be a lateral financial move for the 2023 year.

Foreign LLM student here. I plan to take the NY bar exam in February. I’m thinking of taking a bar prep course (most likely Barbri). They offer two options: the “traditional” course (which lasts around 2.5 months) and an extended 6-month course. The difference in price is substantial – 2.5k for the traditional course vs 6k for the extended one. Any thoughts/recommendations on which one I should take? Interested in working in PE, but experiences align more with the Ops side (3 YOE in strategic value creation). Is there a significant difference in total comp potential between ops and investments roles? Not sure how to make a case to break into investments with minimal DD experience, so thinking about Ops recruitment (Associate). Would also be grateful to learn about potential strategies non-DD focused consultants have used to ultimately break into investment teams.

After you moved in-house, how did you get more comfortable reviewing contracts or counseling on issues you weren’t super familiar with? Any other hiring managers feeling like all of your candidates are asking for more money last minute just to see how far they can go? Like if we say the range is 110-130K, they say they’re looking for 135K, you offer 135K and then they say they won’t take the job for less than 150? Not even with competing offers. It’s hard for me to stay excited about wanting to work with someone when they do that. What a waste of everyone’s time.
