I have an initial recruiter phone interview with Square Thursday. Is it it just a phone call or is it a video call and they didn’t specify. If it’s a video call what’s the dress code like? I’m coming from consulting so all my interviews were in suits. Any tips to get past the recruiter phone screen?
Hey! Any Google folks know if it’s possible to negotiate fully remote if a contract role is hybrid? Personally, I don’t want to relocate and go to the office on a contract role given the current economy. Plus, I’m assuming contractors are the first to go in layoffs. I just think it’s a fair trade off if I’d be allowed to work fully remote. I’m also trying to have flexibility to manage my Airbnb business in a different country. Same time zone as the home office if I’d travel weeks at a time.

I recently interviewed with two different companies. It varies vastly by employer. Both were more general get to know you questions and then the typical “Why [insert business name]?”. One employer asked how I handled multiple deadlines and asked more behavior based questions. The other asked more about my current role and specifics about the firm I work for (hours, practice group, experience, what is partner track, do I have clients). I think this was more aligned with how competitive they needed to be with salary to get me to accept a job since they hadn’t found other good candidates. Either way, know the role and think of good questions you want to ask about what they do, what brought them to the company, why have they stayed, etc.
Convey that you understand that the role will require you to interact with and build relationships with employees in various business units and that this is something you’re good at. An example of how you built relationships as outside counsel with your company clients (and with their business folks in addition to legal folks) would be great, IMO.
