Fishes, OK so this is true. Wipro is delaying the joining by half a month due to some restrictions or organisational changes & not ready to compensate for that half a month loss of salary. Very rude & absurd behaviour from them. Hence rejecting the offer as such company if u aren't sure when to ask for joining u may revoke the offer letter later on. Hence multiple options in hand is necessary nowadays. Infosys Tata Consultancy HCL Technologies

bitter... that doesnt sound right. they're probably proud and your ego is just to big to realize it?
My dad was a professor and no he did not make tons of money. On the other hand, he loved his work, had great work-life balance, and was considered a great teacher and futuristic thinker. If money is your only metric, you are bound to be disappointed.
Academia is filled with bitter people, don't take it personally.
Out of Undergrad is more than a professor? I know some grad school professors who make 250k+ a year...
My parents are immigrants so we grew up very poor. They're just happy I have a job :)
If your parents are offended you make more or they hold a grudge then they need serious help and therapy...did they raise you to not be successful or only as successful as them? Wow. Btw please show them this!!
#FBfam I wish people were as supportive in person as they are here!
Ha, yeah, no joke! It's amazing what pretenses all of us put on to "be professional."
What kind of parents not proud of their sons/daughters making more than them? Bitter??? Are you serious????
They published my (public) school's professor salaries once in the school newspaper. My starting salary was 2.5k higher than one of my Econ professor's
I learned from a professor during my MBA that the published salary is basically half of what the really good ones actually make since their consulting fees don't get counted in that figure.
D3 is exactly right even at research 1 universities. Most schools also make professor salaries public knowledge in case people are curious
OP- profs get the short end of the stick, compensation-wise, in this country. Sorry you're dealing with that. I'm dealing with something similar. I think that I am holding myself back from being as successful as I can be because J feel like it will only make even more distance than there already is between me and my nuclear family.
D3- sorry to hear! Go be as successful as you can:) hopefully your fam will come around.
Thanks, OP! Yeah, it is not intentional. They just don't get it. The more successful I become, the less I feel like I have family and I think everyone wants to feel like they have family. #therapytopics
Btw, thanks :)
Lol no not adopted. Only child too
D5- OP is right. My husband has a PhD from an Ivy League school and won't be going into academia for this exact reason. Find me a history professor making $200k and I'll give you a puppy
D5 yup! That's pretty much only business:( I certainly don't think it is right, but it is an unfortunate reality.
Most profs I know make around $65k. Biz and law school profs are the exception and rare
PWC1- they are proud, just mom now thinks I'm completely made of money so she will order expensive meals and expect me to pick up the tab (which I don't mind and would do anyways, but her attitude has a serious shift when I got my job)
