This role is in Seattle and a friend in Amazon says they are doling out the $$$
They are the highest payer in Seattle tech at the moment. The latest generation of their Cloud is surprisingly solid, and they have a solid conversion rate of their traditional customers to Cloud subscriptions. They have bad reputation from their history, and then there is their CEO Safra Catz (a vocal Trump supporter) who doesn't bode well with the belief system of the deepest blue state in the nation.
DONT DO IT
I wouldn't say 'don't do it'. Play it as a war expedition - limit it to 18-24 months, be prepared for lots of 'huh?' moments, learn as much as you can and start planning your next jump very much on the first day there. The DO pay well.
@PwC1 Why?
Thanks A1. Thanks for the insights. Really appreciate it. For more context, I am in Strategy consulting and wondering if moving to a “program manager” role may hurt future exits. Any thoughts on that front?
Disagree on the solid transition of traditional customers to cloud. Majority of legacy customers on premise are staying on premise as the costs going to cloud are more over the long term. Growth has been mainly in mid-market and smaller areas.
That said - it sounds like a sales job. Sales is fine as long as you’re driving revenue but it’s a meat grinder. You are only as good as your last quarter, and no matter how well you do - you will be expected to do more next year - exponentially.
Oracle went through a huge bloodletting where they lost their top seasoned sales talent to faster growing technologies like Salesforce. If you are in Sales in the field - it’s 50/50 base/commission. If you’re in support/dev - it may be a form of that but do not expect your base pay to raise once you are there.
