Anyone jump from consulting to sales? Mind blown by some of the salaries I've heard. Generally, I have a negative view on sales, just from the slimy salesmen I've dealt with in the past, but I can be wrong. Interested to hear if you've made the jump

Not made the jump but it may be helpful to think of salesfolk as less used-car salesmen types and more like mutual fund or tech software salesmen types.

I came from tech sales. It’s a grind. Summers are slow. Unless you start out selling to large enterprises the money won’t be that great. I find more intelligent people work in consulting too and that makes the work more meaningful.

Thank you for your insight! Would this vary depending on if the role is more of an account manager /account exec role compared to a sales rep role? Not sure I fully understand the differences between those roles tbh

Salespeople who have a base over $100K are quite rare, and those who sustain 200K+ total compensation are equally as uncommon. There are people who do it, but they are the top 5-10% in their field and there is some degree of luck/timing as well.

If you have a powerful network that can help, or if you are hired by a company with a great product who has not already saturated the market but is getting strong adoption - for example Google Cloud, Tableau, or Snowflake a couple of years ago.

Interested in hearing about this as well! Curious what the day to day in tech sales looks like

So I’m probably thinking too much. But I’m looking to leave public accounting and have an opportunity with internal audit. I want to make sure where I go I have good opportunities to advance and if needed be marketable to other companies. Do you think internal audit makes you more or less marketable to other opportunities in the future?

Can anybody please suggest if I clear their interviews will they consider increasing CTC from whatever I quoted becase upon searching for ACon roles they pay much higher than what I quoted.

Need some advice: Last year I left consulting to take a job in industry (a pay cut, but more freedom, WLB). Due to covid I switched to yet another company (same industry). It’s been half a year at the new place and I absolutely hate it. Not the work, but the company genuinely sucks. Considering a) mba for next fall (just as a reset) or b) job hopping yet again. I’m so demoralized that the past two industry jobs have gone so badly. I’m starting to regret not just staying in consulting...

It's gotten to the point where I am not even asked about the lack of a degree on my resume. Personally though, it bothers me. I have a whole bunch of certifications in my industry…but just no formal degree. (cont'd)
