What happened?
Normal procedure. The aircraft went from 39k feet to 10,000 feet in eight minutes. Passenger oxygen masks only provide oxygen for 10-14 minutes, so the pilot needs to get the plane below ~10,000 feet before oxygen runs out to avoid passengers passing out. Descending at 3,700 feet per minute is well within standard operating capabilities of the aircraft. Normal descents on landing are at least 1,000 feet per minute and 3,000 feet per minute is within the normal range for a descent where there are no emergency issues (and there shouldn’t be any passenger discomfort at that rate). So, 3,700 feet per minute isn’t a big deal.
