Take the free ORD train to the rental car center (MMF) and take an Uber from there. Much cheaper than taking an Uber from the airport terminals
Today is your chance to change leadership in the city. If you are worried about crime stop voting for the same people.
Lori lightfoot is not a cop. Not sure what you're smoking. She's a former partner at Mayer Brown.
Curb is a good option I’ve found too.
I have many times. You'll actually not be all alone surprisingly. There's a lot of people coming back downtown from Ohare
No! It's not safe.
I always thought it was okay - until one time it wasn’t. Last time I was in this situation at 1am I took the bus outside one stop away then got a $20 uber from there instead of the $120 surged uber from ohare.
I’ve done this same thing. Works great
I've done 5am and I was glad my husband was with me. Just not worth the risk unless you are some MMA fighter
Consider Metra.
I have done it too - F alone - no big deal
I've done it (female in 30s) - actually the bigger risk I've found is that the trains aren't running, or they have maintenance at a site and you have to get back off and back on, etc. I have learned that it is the most reliable to take an Uber or taxi at that time because I don't want to be waiting at a bus stop for some unknown period of time at that time of night, or really ever.
Traveling on the L going anywhere at 1am is a safety risk, IMO.
I’ve done it plenty of times. You’ll be fine.
Uber is with it even if only because the train can be so slow and unreliable that late.
I take the train after midnight quite often. If you have a carryon, youre fine. If you have a checked bag, you're still fine. The most that should happen is a hobo asking for money.
My tips - take the first car in ORD (the last car in train). This will be mostly other travellers + airport workers + flight crew, which will make you feel more comfortable. Though largely safe, you're more likely to be targeted outside of CTA trains/stations. Loop is generally safer albeit very deserted at that time.
Echoing others about eye contact. Also, put that phone away and be alert to the surroundings. Act like you belong.
its definitely a bit "intense" if youre not used to the CTA but as long as you have headphones in and don't make eye contact with anyone, aware of youe surroundings, etc. you should be fine generally.
if at any point you feel nervous, I'd get off at the nearest blue line stop and take an Uber. It'll at least be significantly cheaper than taking one from the airport.
There are far more dangerous situations in day to day chicago. I’d be more worried about the walk getting off the train with luggage…
Please no, don’t do it.
Check out Curb or hail a cab. If theres enough folks you should be Ok but better to be safe.
If you must, ride in the same car as the train conductor, make eye contact, greet them, and sit nearby, where they can see you and you can give them a “look” if you’re uncomfortable.
Are you traveling for work? Just f'ng Uber.
