You only need a valid driver's license to go to Puerto Rico. There is no border control for passengers coming from mainland US.
Same as SC1, you just need an ID that TSA will accept, no border control involved.
My wife and I, before we were married and she became a naturalized citizen, were traveling to the US Virgin Islands and there was actually an immigration check on return - which really surprised me and I didn’t even think to check for it before we went. Fortunately, she had her passport with work visa on her, the agent said it would have been an issue otherwise.
This was 2005 or so and may not be the same now, or may be different for a return from PR. No checks on entry to the USVI from the US mainland.
Thanks D1. That was my main concern - whether coming back to mainland US would be an issue on a visa
It wasn’t an issue, it was just lucky she had the right docs with her. Maybe someone has more Puerto Rico-specific experience, but based on that I’d suggest taking your passport with visa or visa stamps - whatever you’d normally present to US immigration. Hopefully there isn’t even a screen, it’s a US territory after all.
I plan to next month. On a work visa as well. As per my research; there are no issues traveling back and forth
