Ultimately depends how good your team is. If they are weak, you'll be asked to step up and help out on top of your own duties. Month end close is def extra hours and that's the reality. How much extra hours can't be quantified until you have butt in seat. They are not going to tell you how bad it is since they are trying to fill the role. Good luck
Ask them what time they come into the office and what time they leave.
Ask them how late you need to stay before being eligible for dinner. Ask them how often they stay late enough for dinner.
Ask them what the latest they ever left the office was.
Ask them whether (and how often) they work weekends.
While they don't count NUMBER OF HOURS WORKED they certainly know WHAT TIMES/DAYS they worked.
Thanks!
I would ask what is the expected over time, weekend workload, etc. they definitely know if they work Saturdays in Ianaury or not and they should be honest about that.
Unless you’re controller/cfo you will not be working same hours. I would just be vague and ask how’s the wlb?
Depends on the role. If it’s SEC Reporting, I would definitely ask about quarter end and year end hours because that will vary by company. Also, if a company is heavily involved in mergers and acquisitions, expect that quarter end and year end will be hectic.
System implementations will also cause you to have more work, however, if the team is sized appropriately WLB should not be an issue. A few variables to consider.
When I was interviewing, I directly asked the hiring managers how many weeks does the team work 60+ hours or you can ask to meet the team you will be working with and ask them directly about their busy periods.
Maybe get to know them and try to read their dynamic (family?) and see if they may have to skip out on occasions, which could hint to lack of wlb

Geez, just be upfront that you don’t wanna work PA audit hours there. They’ll understand. A lot of people in these places have to track their time and if they’re being vague, it could also be that they don’t know what their budget will be for staffing if anyone leaves, or could be the place is already a shit show and they don’t want to admit it.
