I’ve been in the same boat, wondering if “neurodivergent-friendly” companies truly live up to their promises. From my experience, it can vary. Some companies genuinely create inclusive environments, but others may just be checking a box. I’d say it’s about finding the right fit for YOU, where your strengths are recognized. Have you looked into any smaller companies or teams that might offer more flexibility?
What do you mean that they're seen as geniuses, I've worked construction my entire life so I'm not really too up to date on how their divergent companies work I'm just now deciding to step away from the construction industry and step into other roles that I would possibly be more than capable of doing so I was just wondering
Used to be. Our neurodiversity programs have gone silent over the past 2-3 years. Of course cannot speak on others.
That's really disappointing - thank you for this. I don't know of a single company that seems to be neuroaffirming, but looks like I won't be applying to SAP then
In my experience at Microsoft, everything depends on the org you’re in. Some groups are very forward-thinking and others aren’t. I can’t speak to any hiring programs, but I have a neurodiversity coach that they pay for. I’ve also found from personal experience that most people I work with either are neurodivergent themselves or know someone who is.
This is great to hear - I've thought about Microsoft although it feels like it's a crapshoot, and I don't know how you begin to find the good teams or not. I had a company offer to pay for a coach but they didn't have any info about what that looked like. I just want to go where I can work without continual burnout and ableism.

I found that it's more important to find a role that aligns with my brain than the company itself. I have been at a couple companies who share and say all the right things on diversity but my day- to- day interactions have at times been a disaster. Why? bc individuals do not absorb company propaganda and adhere to company missions. They have their own biases and at times are emboldened by their title or others to say and act how they want. HR can only do so much unless it's something exteeme. For example I and others complained about boss at one company for a year and they just talked to them each time. Meanwhile we all continued working for them which was so fun. Finding a role that compliments ADHD has made work easier and enjoyable which then means I can be successful at my job. I.e. variety of tasks every week, manage my schedule, opportunities for breaks during the day.
