Current FORVIS, legacy BKD employee. BKD is very cheap. It’s kind of their MO. Your friends salary seems low but it wouldn’t shock me.
A lot of people are hoping they are more competitive with pay after the merger but I’m not holding my breath. The same group of partners expecting the same paycheck.
Not a BKD employee but a T5-10 employee, not B4- I make more and work less than my B4 friends & counterparts, which made my firm more attractive. The culture and client work is also significantly better (I work on mostly mid-sized companies, know my clients, and see engagements through completely start to finish, and often work directly with MDs who sit down and teach me). I’m sure this can vary by firm and even location, just my honest perspective. I keep in close touch with several old cohort members across the country and while I am the only non-B4, I make the most and live in MCOL.
Yeah mid tier is where it’s at. I make 112k as a senior here. DM for referral to CohnReznick.
Funny to see mid tier people here preaching the better stuff. I was there before and could not be happier with big 4. Better client, better pay, better budget, better talents, better brand, the list goes on and on. Really can’t think of any benefit working for bkd stuff
Like I mentioned though, I totally think Its dependent on your region and office. My mid-tier firm actually happens to be the largest PA firm in my city, so I feel as if I have all the qualities you have mentioned. I could see how if I went to a smaller office, however, I may feel like you felt.
I think mid tier firms do a better job of distinguishing high and low performers. If someone really was paid that low chances are they are a very low performer. High to mid performers are paid market salaries otherwise they would leave.
He’s not a low performer I can guarantee that. Super hard worker and very smart.
I was at $76k as a first year manager at big 4 just a few short years ago so no I’m not surprised especially if BKD shrank raises due to the unknowns of the pandemic.
I've worked for BKD and that wouldn't surprise me. Their pay is very low
I hope merger helps with this
Come on!

Sounds like when I made senior manager …. LCOL salaries are REALLY low. 😭
But like 80k for a SM role. Is that actually true? Like, what…
I dont work for BKD but can speak for another T10 firm where staff make more that 80k in MCOL so I think whoever you were speaking to may have exaggerated. BKD specific, following their merger, I doubt even more they could get away with such low pay. No one would stay. Hope this helps.
From my experience mid tiers pay very little but $80k for a SM in this country is crazy
I worked at a T15 mid tier firm in NJ (HCOL) and was paid $85.5k as an Audit Senior 3. Audit Manager 1s told me they made high $90s
This was all in 2021 so fairly recent, and they never gave a bonus ever lol
