Likely almost never in a big agency. Although your manager would do you a solid by getting you into meetings when/if possible even if just to have you be back row/listen. I try to find opportunities for my juniors to do this with me.
At smaller agencies, contact time with C-suite management is fairly common, as they might be the lead contact on the project, these are great places to be in the early stages of your career. Some of their magic will rub off on you.
At larger agencies you probably won’t even see them. They’re basically urban legends, their names whispered about amongst staffers day to day, but do they actually exist? Who knows.
You’d most likely only see them during new business pitches, and in final reviews on larger projects, or on email. Places like that aren’t always great places to be at the beginning of your career.
I wouldnt think very often at all, unless it was a 10 person place...
We are a pretty big place. 250+.
I don’t personally meet with the CCO. There are other strategists (including juniors) in the building that do, I’m just newer and haven’t formed that relationship yet.
The strategy director is across my account and one other and they are my manager so we talk often.
We have weekly check-ins with the CSO about our account, and I have casual chats with the CSO about things that are happening as they arise or if we run into one another.
Never
I got to sit in on pitches (& revisions) to a CCO around twice a month. Sometimes an idea in the deck came from my partner and I, sometimes not. It was really motivating!
My company is about 160 people. Generally you won’t present work to a C or E level manager until the team review. However they all have open-door policies and hold weekly department meetings and monthly one-on-ones with all their direct reports.
I do. But it’s because we’re a really small team.
It doesn’t matter. Go make great work and someday you’ll have to see them all the time. It’s for sure not a way to get ahead. Just go make greatness.
