Yes but it’s easier to just counter by saying your other offer is $210 than saying “another company offered me 200, can you do 210?” Just say - the other firm offered me 210 but I really like the culture and the other intangibles you have here — your firm is my top choice and I’m ready to commit right now if you can match?
If they ask what firm, just say “a competitor” and I believe they’re not really allowed to ask much more than that — if you keep sharing, they can ask questions about info that you’ve shared, but they can’t force you to prove your current salary so not much they can do to force you to prove another offer either. It’s like audit — answer what’s asked and don’t show too many cards at once. “Can you remind me, what did you say your current salary range was?” “I believe the range we discussed prior (as in range you are looking for, not what you make now) was ___” I think they’re not actually allowed to ask that directly anymore anyway. Google or ask an HR friend what questions are permitted or not — you will get some clever ideas like this about how to get around them. Knowing your rights is the same thing as knowing the rules of the game with recruiting — and knowing the rules helps you win the game.
