As someone with ADHD, I have had at least 100 jobs because I get bored and quit. The boredom will literally make me feel like someone is holding me against my will, it’s an intense feeling and overwhelming so I impulse quit because I feel like I’m going to die. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this, and how many jobs have you had?

I should also mention that I’m a master at getting new jobs, I always interview and get the job. It’s very seldom I don’t. That ADHD charm goes to work, and so I’m never worried that I won’t find another job. That might be part of the problem.

I’m the same (I have a husband and kid). I went to school for a masters in IOP and became a management consultant because I saw that I hated minutiae longterm and I could play to my strengths and do projects that excited me and have that novelty to carry me through - and then hand it over to the next person and move on to the next project. I love it.

I was thinking about this too! I think I m undiagnosed ADHD, it’s so hard for me to stay focus! 🧘‍♀️ I have to delete all social, yet I m on fishbowl, because wanting to find community and something to look at. I wish there are ways to be better… without medicines

Life can be exhausting when you can’t get anything done, stick to anything, and then beat yourself up about that endlessly. Big hugs, I know just how you feel. 💛

I'm a consultant and I think the variety/short-term nature of my projects has kept me entertained. Before this, I would usually get bored of a job at 2 years.

You must not have dependants. The fear of impacting my family's lives prevents me from impulse quitting. Also, Adderall.

I have a daughter actually, but I had her late in life. I’m currently at a job that has become redundant and the pressure I’m putting on myself to perform has been causing me to burn out even more. It’s the longest I’ve ever stayed at a job, 2 years now. I have been promoted as well. I’m trying like heck to stick it out, but I do have some resumes out so I don’t just quit without a plan. Kids have a way of putting things into perspective, you are right about that.

We need to STOP glamorizing overworking. Please.

The absence of sleep, good diet, exercise, relaxation, and time with friends and family isn’t something to be applauded.

To many people wear their burnout as a badge of honor. It’s time to consider pivoting.

And it needs to change.

I have tried absolutely everything I can think of to limit distractions during the work day and none of it has worked. Working from home has only made it 100 times worse because now I know there are other more interesting things to be distracted by all around me. What do you do to hold focus during working hours? What will get me to be able to work for longer than 35 minutes without getting distracted?

Been thinking about the other post about ADHD jobs. Any other job hoppers here or people with non linear careers? Or maybe you got a specific degree and are now doing something completely different? This has been a decade-long struggle for me.

A therapist said to close her door if we don’t want to see it but it’s more than that. She needs this important life skill & I don’t know how to help. Easier to organize w/o her but that’s not a solution.
