Ban awards entirely
Award shows have been both a blessing and a curse. Until agencies (read big holding company agencies) only started focusing on Cannes, awards were fun, nice to win and nice to get recognition for smart thinking and a job well done.
Then, it became a formula. We tried and failed at calling scam a scam. Then we perfected the game and got the case study to be the winner, not the work.
I love winking awards. But it is out of hand and really who the jurors know that gets the medals. Hell, there are multi-hundred thousand dollar employees whose only job it is, to know how to game the system.
For the folks calling to an end of voracious spending on shows vs keeping people employed, I stand with you.
And when we get back on our feet, let’s hold those feet to the fire and only honor real work, for paying clients that we have created a positive result in the marketplace for.
Otherwise, move to Hollywood and see if your fake concepts play in the world of fiction.

Tham Khai Meng was the CCO of Ogilvy. That was his only job... Game the system. Total charlatan. Finally got fired for something that was unbecoming of a CCO. An overpaid egomaniac and product of Cannes excess.
I thought they were banned and all future entries are on pause? The only awards/entries were paid for prior to the shutdown.

Award shows are dumb anyway, YouTube views and media love have always been better
Yeah... that's not going to happen. Award shows are marketing. Agencies need marketing. Would you tell clients that have had to furlough employees to slash their marketing/media spend?
If it makes you think you might want to see a film because it got notice at Cannes, the Globes, Sundance, or Oscars, you know the answer to this. It’s a form of social validation and, in more usual times, it adds to an agency’s cachet. Right now, seems pretty irrelevant—but, trust me, this sanity will pass. Short-list or Grand Prix, it says you can play.
ahhhhhahahhaha
We banned ours once quarantine started. There may have been some entries that already went through earlier in the year, but we’re pausing through 2020.
What awards are accepting submissions? Deadlines are usually March
Won my share of them over the years but they don’t show up on the org chart or to the bean counters. Having a job # next to your name is far more important.
