Anyone here who left fed job and regretted it?
I’ve had my eye on a “Delivery Transformation Change and Communications Consultant” position at Deloitte. Does anyone work here that could give some insight into this position/department or one like it? And is there anyone who has worked in marketing and shifted to communications/consulting…what are your thoughts on a career shift?

I always thought laid off was “we can’t afford your position anymore” VS “you done fucked up” for fired
Absolutely not the same. Fired is for an offense/incompetence/insubordination, etc. and can also affect unemployment benefits. Unlike laid off.
That’s how I feel about Freelance vs Unemployed
Answers above are all correct. If you're let go you can collect unemployment, if you're fired you cannot.
How does this actually need explained?
Ha... i know you
When someone is laid off it’s supposed to be because the position no longer exists (loss of a client, restructuring, etc.) and of the same position ever becomes available again, you’re supposed to be the first person they consider for the opening as you weren’t let go for performance/incompetence/etc. That said, I’ve never heard of that happening. Also, severance packages are usually reserved for people being laid off (not fired). There are differences, but people often interchange the terminology incorrectly.
Fired = cause. Laid off = budgets or shortfall needs to be made up and you might not have been good enough for them to make extraordinary moves to save you. Or you might but the situation was unmanageable so they couldn’t save you. Not the same thing at all but in both cases could be tough to find a job of course. Best of luck to you
