Loan staff gives u perspective of the other side
Provides a different perspective - both good & bad depending on the client and the length of the loan staff.
I’d say in my experience the vast majority of loan staffs have resulted in poor retention & career growth when remaining in public but provides a good resume builder if you’re looking to leave. At least in terms of the longer loan staffs.
Typically long period causes you to have to roll off other clients & lose out on that time developing relationships with clients / internally. Usually transition back is harder after being away a long time. If you have a good schedule (I.e. good teams/clients) it can be difficult to get that back.
^ I don't recommend sending first years into the field bc they should first learn the firm's process and ways of doing things. Also, when you're on the other side, I've found myself relying on the knowledge toolkit I built from public (from being on multiple clients and engagements). If you go straight into the field, that toolkit is basically nothing.
So in that sense, you got a raw deal. You didn't get the benefit of public's "boot camp" to quickly build a foundation. You also didn't have that baseline to compare the experiences.
Learn something new possibly. Network building. They can hire you FT after. Do bad work because your time is limited. It’s up to you. Lol
About 75% of the loan staff I have seen the people leave and go work for the client.
My loan staff engagement forced me to think differently than I would have during my regular job at GT. It sucked doing busy season hours when it wasn't even busy season but I definitely think I got a lot out of it.
This was a thread the other day from EY. Not sure how to link it but this was a few comments within.
I loaned staff for Toyota when they were in LA. Wasn’t too bad but would never do again.
