At what age were your kids able to sleep alone in an unfamiliar place (e.g., room in vacation home)? Last time we traveled with our two and three year olds we found my husband needed to share the room with them and then they were happy and slept… but it meant he had to go to bed at like 8/830 pm which kind of sucks. They are now 4 and 2.5… should they be able to go to sleep in the room together without him there? Are they old enough to understand and cooperate?
Those of you who work at smaller companies (under 50 employees), would you mind sharing what kind of benefits you receive? How much pto? What’s the contribution to health, dental etc? Do you get any less common benefits? Thank you
In a perfect world, I would have work-life balance and be able to disconnect on a somewhat normal basis. In this world, I can't Are there other ways you fully unplug from work without actually taking time off?
Best family vacation destination you've been to in the past year or two? Something covid-friendly but that will appeal to my wife and kids [son, 22 and daughter, 18] thanks!
Are we allowed to travel from out of province to Vancouver for the holiday break? How rigid are the lockdown restrictions in B.C. right now?
What is the company PTO rollover policy?
I know this varies based on the company but besides project needs from the hiring manager, does anybody take multiple months between when your background check clears and you actually start? I don’t want to immediately jump from job to job but not sure if taking some time off is generally accepted.
Has anyone ever taken a leave of absence/sabbatical due to burnout/exhaustion/depression? I'm feeling at my wits end with everything right now and have an appointment with my dr tomorrow. I feel like some time off away from everything would do me some good - I also have some other medical problems - but I'm afraid of what it might do to my career, what my co-workers/family will think, etc.
Can restricted holiday application be rejected by reporting manager? Do they generally do so?
Hi all. Posted this in a different bowl and not getting any replies. Hoping you all can help. What benefits are smaller companies (under 50 employees) offering? How much pto? How big of a contribution to health, dental? Any spousal or dependent coverage? Any other less common benefits? Basically looking for ways to remain competitive to the degree possible with larger employers. Thanks!
Question for folks in here who work at a company with unlimited PTO/vacation - how do you manage this from being abused by employees?
I’ve been waiting for security clearance since July and just found out I’m pregnant after trying for a year. I’m hoping clearance will be granted in early spring 2021 and I can start work soon after. Thankfully taking unpaid time off isn’t a big issue (won’t be eligible for FMLA or parental leave), but worried about timing and telling HR & my supervisor. I’m planning to tell them once I start; know timing isn’t ideal and stressed about starting off on the wrong foot. Any advice?
Has anyone taken time off work because of their mental health? Did it help? Feel like I am at a breaking point but worried if I do it once I’ll end up doing it for the rest of my career
I heard most of us are off for some holiday next week, so enjoy the day off to prepare for the holiday!
Is it reasonable to ask for three weeks before joining a new company? I was thinking a two week notice and a week vacation to take a breath. What do you think ?
I’m on the GPS PDM town hall and they seem to be ignoring the fact that the PTO impacts the PDM track whereas other tracks do not…. Unless they answered and I missed it
I got a job offer and my wife is pregnant and due in 2 months. Do I accept and tell them? Or tell them before I accept? Not looking to immediately take time off if that matters. Maybe a two weeks then take an LOA after a few months.
Has anyone switched from audit to human capital consulting? What was the process like? Would like to get my mba if possible and then look into that service line, would love to stay at the same firm I just can’t do audit anymore. Currently a Senior 3, up for promotion soon.
If you miss a zoom meeting your bosses are on as well as other attorneys because you overslept where you were supposed to share some updates on cases you are working on as part of the conversation, do you apologize and tell them you missed your alarm OR make something up (white lie) of something that came up that you had to deal with?
Curious to hear what solutions your organisation (or your client) is implementing to entice people back to the office? I've seen some companies offering free breakfasts for non-peak days (Monday or Friday), or free yoga classes....but I'm keen to hear another other examples you've seen or heard. Examples can be prior to Omicron, as that seems to put a dampener on organisations looking to return to the office.
Why is every white collar job salaried? I understand is it legally salary positions are supposed to be for members of management. However the vast hordes of associates and Senior associates in our firms manage nothing. Why are they all paid on salary instead of hourly? Are there historical, legal, political reasons why this is the case? Does the entire US economy just agree to ignore the law and pretend that everybody who has a white collar job manages something?
Where/who are some of the best creative/strategy consultant agencies? Wondering if anyone’s made the switch and what they think

Hey fish! Anyone looking for a contract recruiting role? My company is looking for someone to come on for a 6-12 month period to mostly focus on growth function roles (sales, marketing, customer success, and support) with some entry level SWE roles sprinkled in. I’d say there is a possibility of going perm but that’s yet to be decided as we’re still working through headcount for this year, but we’re a small tech startup in the SaaS space with ~70 employees. Drop me a line if you’re interested!
I took and passed NY bar in 2016, which was the UBE exam. From what I understand from reading online, most states only let you transfer the score for 3-4 years after you took the exam? So I would have to retake the bar exam completely in another state?
Working remote, where should I move to? Married + toddler. I like walkable areas (not too suburban). In LA now but it’s just too California- people are kind of annoying & it’s low energy for a big city, not to mention it’s expensive. Lived in Austin previously & loved it, was thinking of going back but prices now are out of control.
Looked at the email about the healthcare options. It said 22k is the break even for choosing between LDP and HDP. I don't get where that # comes from. Sorry not a finance person. Explanation?

Need to leave for Canada in roughly a month because of US visa expiry but worried about potential travel restrictions in Canada given the bad covid situation. Are there any provinces that are not as hard hit by covid? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.
Hello, I am a 3rd year insurance defense attorney with product and premise liability experience. Due to long-COVID, I am likely to lose my job. The plan is to find a government position that would involve more substantive litigation and trial work, then leverage that into the private sector a few years down the line. Any advice would be appreciated regarding networking, where to start, etc. Thank you.
