Just another thing to consider, If you're inside the perimeter with a young family, kids will need to be private schooled, the public school system north of the city (East Cobb - walton, Lassiter, pope, John's Creek, Alpharetta) is where you'll want to be if you'd rather do the public option.
I live in Ormewood Park. Happy here and easy commute to airport. There are a few charter schools that are good and public schools are getting better. Beltline is finished at north of the neighborhood.
How do charter schools work in ATL? Any chance you have a good link handy (best ones, etc)? Thanks
The highlands or Decatur
Virginia Highlands will be tough at $500k but you may be get lucky depending on what you’re looking for. Ormewood Park, Inman Park, Grant Park, Kirkwood, Edgewood and East Atlanta Village/East Atlanta are all options at your price point.
I live in East Atlanta. You’re going to be hard pressed to find something in Highlands or Inman Park for that price. Inman would be one of the more walkable spots. Kirkwood and Edgewood are great spots for walkable stuff, but I haven’t seen much for $500k. Maybe a one bedroom. The west side is exploding right now and has better prices, but you’ll definitely be investing for a few years at minimum over there. Good luck
Quick Edit. - PWC2 is right. Schools are MUCH better outside the Perimeter. Your only real option is living in the city of Decatur, but for $500k you might be out of luck
for 500k in the burbs (east Cobb, roswell, Alpharetta, etc) you can get more house etc. depending on location. there is some stuff in downtown roswell, Woodstock, Marietta and Alpharetta that is walkable to restaurants/shopping etc but 500k may not be enough for that if you want single family as a lot of it is condos. if you work In the city commuting might be tough but it really depends. And commuting most places in Atlanta is a pain. Worth looking at though to see if it fits your needs.
vinings!
Edgewood or Ormewood Park would work for that budget and those criteria
The highlands
Alpharetta is great for young families
