Hi all. I am trying to determine if I am being compensated fairly. I am a tax manager (about to start my second year as manager) and have been with EY since staff 1. I was promoted to manager in June 2020 (during covid) and received a 7.5% raise. The class above me has mentioned they received much higher raises during their promotion years. My base salary is now approx. 97K. Any insights would be extremely helpful. Thanks!

I got an offer from another company. Currently working in walmart. The main idea behind getting an offer is to ask for a salary rise. I was very much underpaid here. So I thought getting an offer will help increase my pay here in walmart by getting counter offer from them. But i am not sure if I discuss with my manager it will backfire me.Walmart

Better make sure you are being hired in to a project at a work location that you like before you accept the offer. Do not make the mistake of coming in as a general management consultant and then testing out the waters. If you don't find the right role in a certain period of time you will be coaxed to taking a position that is out of the way for you.
I would bring it up to the hiring manager. If you’re not being hired to work on a specific contract you generally have a lot of autonomy on project selection. Depending on your background, should be able to find something that works for you with a DC client site/option to work out of a DC office

It depends on the team.
If you're hired to a req for a specific project then it's not so much negotiating as making sure the project is in your desired location before you accept or even interview for the role.
I disagree about not coming in as a capability hire without a specific project lined up. I was hired that way and was allowed a lot of flexibility regarding my ultimate project. Ultimately it's true that eventually you're just going to have to be billable so if it's been a while and none of your desired projects come through, you will get pressure to find something a little bit further away, but some teams are great about working as hard as they can about making sure you're happy with your project so it's really about making sure you join a good team. Kind of hard to do from the outside but not impossible!
Have fun driving to Quantico 😉
My thoughts exactly!!!
