Bummed out I spoke too much about my passion for film/tv spots in my JR CW position interview. I don’t think the CD thinks I’m a good fit for the role now bc the agency works primarily on social.

If I was interviewing a Jr. CW candidate for a social-heavy position and they spoke at length about their passion for TV, it would definitely make me skeptical. I’ve had MAS interns who thought they were too good for the work and their egos and attitudes were extremely problematic. OP, it’s totally fine to talk about your aspiration to do TV, but you have to speak to social/banners/etc. with excitement and passion. That’s what you’re hired for at the junior level. For example, you can talk about treating every brief — no matter the size — as an opportunity. Or ask questions like, “Are the CDs open to proactive TV scripts I write outside of my day-to-day workload?” Just remember to communicate that you understand the priorities of a junior creative role.

That makes sense.

I wouldn’t worry about it. From what I’ve been told, CDs care more about your taste than what medium interests you. At least you were able to show you have passion, and give them a sense of what you gravitate to from a creative perspective. Plus, if you end up doing social video, that knowledge might be transferable.

I’m just afraid that it may have seemed that I wouldn’t be interested in writing for other mediums. Idek anymore.

I don’t think so. You could very easily tie that to social content. Social incorporates video too and if they aren’t doing that, they’re doing social wrong and/or not understanding how the algorithms work. Your interest in telling visual stories could help craft larger campaigns and potentially start social trends that could garner a lot of impressions.

The skills are definitely transferable…I’m just afraid he didn’t see it that way. Oh well. This is also coupled with the fact that my portfolio is so rough rn.

The truth set you free!

I was laid off from a resource management role, working with employees approaching or on the bench, working with managers to staff projects, and support functions like report creation, scheduling, etc. Roles like this are few and many large consulting firms have frozen internal hiring. Serious q: I'm choosing between a two BI/Ops type roles, one in a FAANG in Dublin, one in a less-known corporate in London (where I'm currently based). FAANG pays 70% more and is a more interesting / more senior role, but I'd prefer staying in London where all my friends are / where it's warmer and sunnier. I'm pretty sure I'm gonna take the FAANG role, but has anyone else struggled with this type of career vs. personal life trade-off, and how did you reason about it?

Had my virtual on-site for an S&O L3 role 3.5 weeks ago (NYC, 5 YOE). I haven’t heard back on a decision yet, and was wondering how long it typically takes? I also know that I was one of the very first candidates to interview for this specific role, and there are atleast 2 more people scheduled for onsites. Does the recruiter typically wait for all candidates to finish their onsites before communicating a decision? Or if I haven’t heard back yet, it’s probably a reject?
