[query] Is it a good idea to say a firm No due to medical reasons to a new night shift project I'm hired in?Accenture
I recently got a night shift project (2 days ago) that requires me to work from 10:30pm till 7:30am
I'm not comfortable with these timings and I'm thinking to ask my manager to put me on Bench (Due to medical reasons that involve mental health)
Is it a nice idea to say a firm No to a new project I'm hardlocked into, due to night shifts?

Never quit a job unless you have something else lined up. You think work is tiring...imagine being unemployed for months on end...
So sorry to read this
Just call in sick tomorrow and Friday. Have 4 days of chill. Chances are you'll be stir crazy by Sunday.
Do start looking for a new job. Never knee jerk quit without a plan.
With true burnout , 4-day weekend is not nearly enough unfortunately. Took me ~2 months of leave (zero work contact) to finally get even the inkling of an itch to want to get back on the horse (so I took an extra month further!). Full burn-out Fs you up…that said, I wish I had taken more sick days/extended weekends/mini-vacations (real ones without distractions/go-go-go mentality) exactly as you suggested before it got to the point that it did (naturally, problem with our industry is that impromptu leaves like sick days often add stress rather than reduce it; so I’d recommend pre-planned vacays). The other solution, which I’m following, is leaving consulting altogether after assessing, with a clear and calm mind, whether it really fits life goals and values (it doesn’t for me).
Don’t quit in this job environment. There are too many highly qualified unemployed people that you will be competing against. Apply and network on the weekends. But don’t quit.
OP posted this, said "chat with me" and disappeared 😆
Think about the bills you gotta pay
Get a second job lined up mate. I'm highly qualified and on month 14 of unemployment from doing what you're thinking about doing ......
Same been a year :((((
Been there, and eventually done that. Do I regret it? No. I'm I still unemployed? Yes. Currently on survival mode, but at least I have my sanity.
I did the same a month ago, tomorrow last day (not US so it's a month notice).
So liberating and happy I did it.
That said I don't need a job for a couple of years and outside of the USA so don't need the health benefits, which may make your decision harder.
Good luck in what you do, but remember if you are good enough to be here you are good enough to be welcomed back unless you burn your bridges
Maybe they don’t want to go back. I don’t want to go back to consulting after I make my exit. Completely burnt out, stressed for no good reason, traumatized, unable to sleep and eat… lol sounds like a dream career.
Do NOT quit ! - sincerely unemployed person
:(((
This is super great . So much support and love for a stranger in here 👍😍
rather than quitting take some PTO immediately. it’ll help you make a more clear and informed decision
Agree with all . Doing nothing everyday is a bigger struggle though you may like it for a month or 2 . Find a new suitable engagement and then quit .
Help me land a job before you leave, its dark out here
Go get your f-ing computer and edit my slide deck.
More specifically though, if it’s project related, know that all projects will come to an end. Take time off after the project. Firm related, if you have a way to survive for a few month you could take some time away but know that it may be a bit until you’re able to find your next role.
Depending on what it is you want to do, happy to chat with you to understand more about your interests. There’s opportunity for you everywhere.
I wouldn’t recommend quiting, I don’t know your line of work but I would consider taking a couple days sick & going to your competitor and try to secure a position with them. Unless your no longer looking to do what your doing. But I advise to take the sick days and do a little shopping around. Life works in mysterious ways and you might end up somewhere you’d never thought you’d be and loving it. Went from chef to salesman. Wouldn’t look back and always continue to improve myself. For my own well being but for my family as well. Don’t give up just sacrifice
I have done it before. Time needed to search a new one can vary & may become frustrating when you are unemployed. So quit only if you are sure of below things.
1- Family / Friends /Network supporting you mentally, socially if you remain unemployed for longer than expected.
2- Financial back up to survive 12-18 months to cover your daily expenses without any new income
3- Confirmed activity / schedule of items to bring you towards your goal (work / personal)
Go on a leave of absence before quitting. First make an appointment with your physician and let them know about the mental health tool work is taking. Then go on a medical loa for a couple months. After 6 weeks, you’re generally able to collect short term disability if a medical loa
Take a Sabbatical. Recharge yourself to find something new and less stressed job even though you love it.
Yes, PTO is the only way stop and think what you really want.
Okay thanks everyone trying to stop me from quitting. I still quit but thanks for trying to stop me.
Now I’m dilemma is I really don’t want to keep working two more weeks. Can I just quit now? Gonna work on my side business
What’s Plan B if you don’t mind me asking? Are you going to take some time off and then reassess? Happy to hear you’re working on your side business. That sounds like a fun thing to work on in the interim
Quitting was the best thing I have ever done for myself. Go do something that’s worthwhile — no consulting project I’ve ever done has been worth the sacrifices I have made.
