I feel like you’re lacking true work experience merely? Everyone starts from basic, more practice will help you grasp the information, it sounds like your senior are nice, by explaining things to you a few times, regardless, show your eagerness to learn. Tell senior, here are what I understand from blah blah blah, and start from theere. :) keep it up!
I feel the same way! I was recently put onto a new engagement & I feel like I don’t know where to really start from. I also feel like I should know more than I do. It kinda sucks because there is no senior on my team to ask basic questions to. Not sure how this engagement will go 🤦🏻♀️
...progress and overall I’m feeling really dumb and inadequate. I’m not too close to anyone I work with so I’m reluctant to tell my senior and/or manager, but I just can’t keep going like this. Also I want to mention I always ask a lot of questions but I can never truly grasp the information that’s given to me, no matter how many times its explained. Like I mentioned before, I’m not very close to anyone but my manager is a nice person. Should I tell my manager how I’m feeling or wait until after busy season?
I’m a staff 2 so its been a year, I know it’s not much but I feel like I should know more than I do. It’s becoming clear that audit just might not be for me because I really can’t comprehend some of our recalculations or create a work paper from scratch. I have no idea where to go from here
If you didn’t need people walking through it for you to understand, you’d be senior already =) Also, I’m a senior and still can’t create some calls from scratch.
If you feel like you’re in over your head, 1. Are you taking good notes? It’s ok to ask your senior to pause so you can take better notes. 2. Let your senior know when you’re confused that this is what you remember doing but you need a refresher. We’d rather you ask questions than receive a completely made-up workpaper.
You’re already doing all the right things! Good luck!
Sometimes with staff 2s and senior 1s, we forget that you may need more instruction. Talk to your senior and manager now before you really are in over your head. They can't help if they don't know.
On the bright side, feel good that they are even letting you do challenging work
