There’s nothing wrong with getting help at any point. If you’re at that point, I think it’s better to explore what professional that would be now than to wait until a crisis.
That’s a good point. I had a roommate in college who would go to the school counselors, she said it wasn’t for anything in particular or concerning, she said it was just nice to have someone to talk to about anything. I’m starting to understand what she meant
You don’t have to have something “wrong” with you too seek out mental health professional. Some people go to just better themselves. Try it out! What’s the worse that can happen?
Personally I think most people would benefit from therapy for one reason or another at some point in their life. You don’t have to be clinically depressed or some extreme case to seek help.
Definitely taken to someone. It will help and you will know you are taking action to help yourself. That’s good self care.
I never thought that what I was experiencing during my pregnancy (suicidal thoughts) could lead me to a clinical diagnosis. I never consulted and and never told my doctor and it blew up on my face post partum (tried to kill myself twice). Anyway, what I am trying to get at is there is no tipping point. Just go, even for a telephone appointment, they can schedule it.
I wrote down symptoms that led me to question, then googled the combination of symptoms to see if the results led to a long specific known illness; regardless if I am definitely not feeling myself and I can’t figure out why it’s time to ask a qualified professional
Yep- I had the list during my first session with my psychiatrist and it helped my psychiatrist diagnose me based on my symptoms and narrow down my specific condition
Just recently sought help with a psychologist as well. Already helping. I encourage you to reach out for help.
I don’t mean to pry, but did it feel like quarantine amplified whatever emotions or thoughts you had before?
And how is it helping? I think whatever triggers me is probably something that people experience everyday, I just want to learn tools on how to manage how they make me feel. Work stress, anxiety, etc.
I feel you there. I felt like I was on edge before quarantine started so I called around and scheduled an appointment for the last week of March. It ended up cancelled as it wasn't an essential business and she didn't want the first appointment as a video call (signing paper issues and all that), but I'll probably try again. I imagine mental health facilities are finding ways to sign papers online now... It's a scary step, but I think it will ultimately be worth it
Not that it's a permanent fix, but the vitamin company Nature's Sunshine makes a daily vitamin called Anxious-Less. I started using it about a month ago and I haven't had any panic attacks since. My significant other has been on prescription anxiety medication for 10+ years and uses it less frequently since he started on this.
Obviously still a good idea to talk to someone and work through your issues, but if you don't have time right now or if you're struggling to find a person to talk to that's not teletherapy, it's worth a shot
If you are asking about it here, then it’s about time. And based on my experience, working with therapist was my best decision ever.
