When you sell PTP units, you will typically get a letter with your k1 telling you how to adjust your basis. There will be a cumulative adjustment to basis amount and then an amount that is an ordinary income pick up. Both of these numbers adjust the basis that is reported on your 1099 where the PTP units were sold
PTPs you often have to make annual adjustments for - make sure you’re accounting for that as well
You typically have to make something called “PTP gross income adjustment” because GAAP accounting and tax accounting have different rules. Going to be honest though PTP’s never make any money and the IRS would never come for you any on any of it because your K-1 is probably in losses.

There is an increase for income, but reductions for cash and some other options. I don’t do partnership but don’t they report tax basis capital accounts?
TS1 read my other comment about inside and outside basis. I feel like this person is probably over-analyzing here if this is literally 1 investment in 1 PTP. Basis generally goes up and down by income and losses and people pretend tracking it is more complicated than it really is to over-bill clients.
Look in the bottom left hand corner of the K-1 and it shows you your “inside basis” which is the basis you have in the partnership that the partnership is aware of, and any additional basis or cost invested that isn’t reported to the partnership is your outside basis. If this is a PTP your inside and outside basis are likely the same.
